Wembley College: Director of Sport

REQUIREMENTS: Qualification - Essential A relevant tertiary qualification (NQF Level 7 or higher) in Sport Science, Sport Management, Human Movement Science, Physical Education or Education. A recognised, current national federation coaching accreditation in hockey at a senior level — SA Hockey Association Level 2 as a minimum, with Level 3 / FIH pathway progression strongly preferred. Current first aid certification (or willingness to obtain within three months of appointment). Valid driver’s license, with a PDP or willingness to obtain one. Clearance in terms of criminal record vetting, the National Register for Sex Offenders and the Child Protection Register. Qualification - Desirable A postgraduate qualification in sport leadership, coaching science, high-performance sport or education management. SACE registration. A coach educator / course facilitator accreditation with a national federation. Formal qualification or certification in strength and conditioning, or in sport performance analysis. Accreditation in a second code relevant to the Wembley offering. Experience A minimum of 5 years experience in school, club, academy or federation sport, of which at least three to five years must be in a senior sport leadership role with accountability for a programme, a budget and a team of coaches. Proven, demonstrable strategy work: the candidate must be able to show a sport strategy they personally authored, the evidence base behind it, how it was implemented and what measurably changed as a result. Proven coach development experience. Substantial hockey coaching experience Technical Knowledge Long-term participant / athlete development models and their practical application in a school setting, including the South African Sport for Life framework. The South African coaching framework, federation coaching pathways and the accreditation landscape by code. Sport budgeting, procurement, facility planning and event management.
