Start free — we apply for you →Our client, a well-established engineering and manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced Welding Quality Manager who will also assume responsibility as the company's SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) Manager .
This is an excellent opportunity for a quality-focused professional with extensive welding inspection experience and a strong understanding of ISO standards, quality management systems, and SHEQ compliance. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, workplace safety, and continuous improvement across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Welding Quality Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company's welding quality management system.
- Ensure compliance with applicable welding codes and standards (ISO, ASME, AWS, EN, SANS where applicable).
- Review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Records (WPQ).
- Manage welding inspections throughout fabrication and production.
- Oversee Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities and interpretation of inspection reports.
- Investigate quality issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Manage customer quality requirements and resolve quality-related concerns.
- Coordinate internal and external quality audits.
- Monitor quality performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
SHEQ Management
- Develop and maintain the company's SHEQ Management System.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant environmental legislation.
- Maintain ISO management systems, including ISO 9001 and preferably ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and implement corrective actions.
- Drive safety awareness and promote a strong SHEQ culture throughout the organisation.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness, safety committees, toolbox talks, and SHEQ training.
- Maintain statutory records, permits, and compliance documentation.
- Prepare for customer, supplier, and certification audits.
Minimum Requirements
• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Welding Engineering, Quality Management, or a related technical discipline. • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI, CSWIP, IIW, SAIW or equivalent) preferred. • Lead Auditor qualification will be advantageous. • Minimum 5-10 years' experience in welding quality management within a heavy engineering, fabrication, manufacturing, pressure vessel, structural steel, mining, or industrial environment. • Proven experience managing SHEQ systems within an engineering or manufacturing environment. • Strong knowledge of welding codes, quality standards, and inspection techniques. • Experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems. • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 will be advantageous. • Experience with root cause analysis, CAPA, NCR management, and continuous improvement methodologies. • Excellent report writing and documentation skills. • Strong leadership, communication, and people management abilities.
