Introduction

The Web Developer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining responsive and user-friendly websites and web applications. The role works closely with designers, Business Analysts, software developers, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing digital solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain websites and web applications.
  • Translate business and design requirements into functional web solutions.
  • Develop responsive, mobile-friendly, and cross-browser-compatible interfaces.
  • Write clean, reusable, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • Integrate web applications with APIs, databases, and third-party services.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application and website issues.
  • Optimise websites and applications for performance, scalability, and security.
  • Conduct testing and resolve defects identified during development and UAT.
  • Collaborate with UI/UX designers to implement approved designs.
  • Work with backend developers to integrate frontend and backend functionality.
  • Participate in code reviews and follow development standards and best practices.
  • Maintain technical documentation and source-code repositories.
  • Monitor and improve existing websites and applications.
  • Stay current with emerging web technologies, frameworks, and development practices.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of commercial web development experience, depending on seniority.
  • Demonstrable experience developing websites or web applications.

Technical Requirements

  • HTML5 and CSS3
  • JavaScript / TypeScript
  • Responsive web design
  • REST APIs and web services
  • Git / version control
  • SQL and database fundamentals
  • Browser developer tools and debugging
  • Web security and performance optimisation

Advantageous Technologies

Experience with one or more of the following

  • React, Angular or Vue.js
  • Node.js
  • PHP
  • C# / ASP.NET / .NET Core
  • WordPress or other CMS platforms
  • Bootstrap or similar CSS frameworks
  • Azure, AWS or other cloud platforms
  • CI/CD and DevOps practices
