Introduction

We are looking for A Task Labour Team Leader for the Loading and Offloading of Containers who is responsible for overseeing a team of general labourers to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely packing and unpacking of shipping containers. This role bridges the gap between hands-on manual labor and frontline management, ensuring that cargo is handled according to safety regulations, space is maximized, and inventory records remain accurate.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Team Supervision and Deployment

  • Daily Coordination: Assign specific tasks to team members based on the daily loading/offloading schedule.
  • Shift Management: Conduct daily toolbox meetings to communicate goals, safety reminders, and specific container handling instructions.
  • Performance Monitoring: Ensure workers are deployed on time and monitor their productivity throughout the shift.
  • Line Relief: Step in and perform manual loading or unloading tasks when a team member is on break or during peak periods.

2. Container Loading and Offloading Operations

  • Space Maximization: Plan the efficient stacking and layout of cargo inside floor-loaded or palletized containers to maximize space utilization.
  • Cargo Securing: Oversee the proper use of straps, dunnage, shrink-wrap, and tie-downs to prevent cargo shifting and damage during transit.
  • Equipment Oversight: Ensure the safe and proper operation of tools and machinery such as forklifts, hand trucks, ramps, and pallet jacks.

3. Quality Control and Inventory Management

  • Inspection: Inspect incoming cargo for damage, leaks, or discrepancies against the manifest or packing list.
  • Discrepancy Reporting: Immediately document and report any damaged goods or quantity shortages to the warehouse supervisor or logistics manager.
  • Data Logging: Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or logbooks to record completed containers, seal numbers, and inventory changes.

4. Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Safety Enforcement: Enforce the strict use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)—such as steel-toed boots, high-visibility vests, and gloves.
  • Ergonomic Best Practices: Ensure the team utilizes proper heavy lifting techniques to prevent injuries and reduce corporate liability.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free dock and container yard area.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Experience: 2–3+ years of experience in a warehouse, logistics, or dock environment, with proven experience leading a small team.
  • Certifications: A valid forklift operator's certificate is highly preferred.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy lifting, bending, and stamina to work in various weather conditions inside containers.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills, basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, or WMS software), and sharp problem-solving abilities.
