PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The Warehouse Operator – Machine Handling is responsible for the safe, efficient and accurate movement, loading, unloading, stacking and replenishment of stock within the Distribution Centre through the operation of material handling equipment (MHE). The role ensures products are moved safely, inventory accuracy is maintained, and operational productivity targets are achieved while complying with all health, safety and quality standards. The role requires the operator to safely operate forklifts, flexi machines, electric pallet jacks (EPJs), and other approved warehouse equipment as required to support warehouse operations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Machine Operation Safely operate forklifts, electric pallet jacks (EPJs), and other authorised warehouse equipment. Load and unload delivery vehicles efficiently. Transport pallets between receiving, storage, picking and dispatch areas. Stack pallets safely according to warehouse standards. Perform replenishment of picking locations. Support stock transfers between warehouse locations. Ensure correct handling of frozen, chilled and ambient products where applicable. 2. Warehouse Operations Assist with receiving and dispatch activities. Verify pallet labels and stock locations. Ensure stock is stored in the correct bin locations. Assist Warehouse Stock Assistants with replenishment requirements. Remove damaged pallets and products from operational areas. Assist with stock rotation (FIFO/FEFO). Support inventory counts and stock takes. 3. Equipment Care Complete daily pre-operational equipment inspections. Report equipment faults immediately. Maintain equipment cleanliness. Ensure batteries are charged correctly (where applicable). Operate equipment within manufacturer guidelines. 4. Safety & Compliance Operate equipment in accordance with company safety procedures. Comply with Occupational Health & Safety requirements. Wear required PPE at all times. Follow pedestrian and traffic management rules. Report near misses, accidents and unsafe conditions immediately. Never operate unsafe or defective equipment. 5. Productivity Complete movements within required productivity standards. Minimise product damage. Reduce unnecessary travel and idle time. Assist with workflow during peak operational periods. Work collaboratively with warehouse teams. 6. Housekeeping Maintain a clean and organised work area. Keep aisles clear. Dispose of damaged packaging appropriately. Ensure equipment parking areas remain organised. 7. Teamwork Support warehouse colleagues when required. Assist with cross-functional warehouse activities. Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings. Promote a culture of teamwork and accountability.
