About the Opportunity

An established organisation in the steel industry is looking for an experienced and hands-on Warehouse Manager to take accountability for the daily management of warehouse operations, staff, stock, dispatch and security.

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and have strong operational, organisational and problem-solving abilities, together with sound knowledge of steel products and warehouse processes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise daily warehouse operations and staff.
  • Plan daily deliveries, collections and vehicle allocation.
  • Oversee receiving, picking, loading and dispatch activities.
  • Conduct spot checks to ensure correct materials, quantities and quality.
  • Monitor stock accuracy, damaged materials, returns and inventory control.
  • Supervise warehouse employees, allocate work and manage performance.
  • Review daily vehicle inspections, tracking and reported defects.
  • Ensure safe loading, correct weight distribution and accurate delivery documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with PPE, OHSA, housekeeping and company procedures.
  • Ensure warehouse quality standards are consistently maintained.
  • Address staff, stock, delivery, vehicle and operational issues.
  • Report significant issues and ensure corrective actions are followed through.
  • Monitor alarm activity and respond appropriately to security incidents, including after-hours incidents when required.
  • Maintain strong theft and loss-prevention awareness.
  • Manage warehouse-related security matters during year-end and company closure periods.
  • Ensure the warehouse remains safe, orderly, efficient and secure.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric certificate .
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar warehouse/operations management role.
  • At least 2 years' experience in a management/supervisory capacity .
  • Steel industry experience is highly advantageous.
  • Sound knowledge of steel products, sizes and material identification.
  • Proven experience in receiving, warehousing, stock control, stock takes and inventory accuracy.
  • Experience supervising warehouse staff and managing performance.
  • Working knowledge of dispatch, loading, delivery planning and vehicle/fleet coordination.
  • Working knowledge of OHSA and warehouse safety requirements.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse quality standards.
  • Strong security and loss-prevention awareness.
