Minimum Required Qualification
- Level 4: Grade 12 National Senior Certificate and National Cert level 4 Certificate GET Education, Training and Development
- Level 4: Grade 12 National Senior Certificate and National Cert level 4 Licentiate and Related Occupational Certificates Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology
The Appointee should
- Grade 12 with physical science & Mathematics, UG operations: Certificate in MEC or at least 4 papers consist of P1,2 & 3 of the CMEC
- Grade 12 with physical science & Mathematics,Surface operations: Certificate in MEC or at least 4 papers consist of P1,2 & 3 of the CMEC or SAIOH registration as an Occupational Hygiene Technologist & intermediate certificate in MEC.
- Training, via courses, formal training or practical experience in: o Legislation o Management system formulation and implementation o Safety, Health and Environmental integration o Hazard identification and risk assessment o Extensive computer literacy
- Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience as a C lower
- Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of management systems and database formulation
- Sound knowledge pertaining to people management.
- Medically fit to work in the specific operational area
- Clear security screening record.
- Valid driver's license.
Advantageous Qualifications
- Level 6: Diploma and Advanced Certificates National Diplomas and Advanced Certificates Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology
Additional Requirements
- Degree/ Diploma in ventilation, occupational hygiene or a related field will be advantageous.
- A working knowledge of specialist Ventilation and Refrigeration computer simulation programs would be advantageous
Key Responsibilities
- Legal & Governance Ensure that legal requirements, group standards and policies are adhered to by: Achieving legal compliance Interpretation of legal requirements. Ensures adherence to legal compliance through monitoring and reporting. Measure compliance to the Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene Regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act pertaining to monitoring and reporting at operational level. Responsible to ensure that policies, programmes, standards, codes of practice and procedures are maintained in accordance with legal and Group requirements. Scheduling and conducting of occupational hygiene measurements for compliance to Section 12 of the Mine Health and Safety Act. Page 2 of 7 Compile occupational hygiene and ventilation risk assessments for compliance to Section 11 of the Mine Health and Safety Act. Establish a system to understand and mitigate occupational hazards in terms of the Section 12 of the Mine Health and safety Act. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of emergency preparedness programmes in compliance to Chapter 16 of the Mine Health and Safety Act. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of fire prevention programmes in compliance to Chapter 5 of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene strategies Contribute to the achievement of the objectives and targets of the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene Department and those of the business area by Participating and supporting the development and acceptance of business plans and strategies. Ensure continuous improvement of the ventilation and occupational hygiene programmes and systems by means of integration, optimisation and maintenance of such systems. Maintain ventilation and occupational hygiene strategies and systems by Assist in the development of best practices, standards and procedures. Assist in ventilation and occupational hygiene planning, technical systems, and administration. Provide solutions to specific Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene matters known or identified via trend analysis. Sets daily, weekly and monthly ventilation and occupational hygiene targets. Provide ventilation, refrigeration and occupational hygiene technical expertise to the operations. Ensure that the area of responsibility within the specific section can maintain or improve on their current systems in line with the strategic plans and resource constraints. Ventilation reviews to ensure appropriate working conditions at the operations. Determining the need for plans and plan revisions.

Assist in the implementation and maintenance of emergency preparedness programmes in compliance to Chapter 16 of the Mine Health and Safety Act. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of Emergency preparedness programmes. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of fire prevention programmes in compliance to Chapter 5 of the Mine Health and Safety Act. Measure compliance to the Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene Regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act pertaining to monitoring and reporting at Business Area level. Ensure and assure legal compliance as well as a safe and healthy work environment, to ensure minimized pure risk, litigation exposure and adverse publicity. Ensuring adherence to all ventilation and company policies, procedures and standards. Conducting Ventilation and Occupational hygiene projects, surveys, research and audits. Advising on ventilation and occupational hygiene problems. Advising on changes to plans, schedules, procedures and standards to minimise the effect of unexpected or unsafe work practices. Interpreting and act on ventilation and occupational hygiene related legislation. Participate in mining Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene technology studies.
- Reporting Legal: Ensure compliance to legal reporting requirements for ventilation and occupational hygiene daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually. Meet time deadlines pertaining to reporting daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually Updating, recording and reporting of occupational related exposure histories. Statistical analyses of ventilation and occupational hygiene data per workplace or section of the business area. Operational: Provide information on ventilation and occupational hygiene matters related to a specific workplace or section of the operation. Advice on changes to plans, schedules, procedures and standards to minimize the effect of unexpected or unsafe work practices. Report and advise on ventilation and occupational hygiene findings and trends.

- Stakeholder Relations Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and crossfunctionally. Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders. Sourcing, contracting and negotiating with service providers. Liaising with the necessary entities on any ventilation or occupational hygiene related requirements. Collaborating with external service providers regarding the design and implementation of tools to enhance processes.
