Uppington Logistics Manager - Northern Cape

Introduction

An established logistics organisation is looking for an experienced Regional Logistics Manager  based in Uppington to take responsibility for its operations and continued development within the Northern Cape.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands the realities of moving freight across long distances, managing cross-border transport, coordinating customs clearances and solving operational problems when they arise.

The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of the region — ensuring that shipments move efficiently, clients are kept informed, service standards are maintained and operational issues are dealt with before they become client problems.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day logistics and freight operations within the Northern Cape.

• Coordinate road freight movements, including long-distance and cross-border transport.

• Oversee imports, exports and customs clearance requirements.

• Work closely with transporters, clearing agents, customs authorities, clients and service providers.

• Manage movements through South African border posts and neighbouring countries.

• Ensure that documentation for cross-border and customs movements is accurate and complete.

• Monitor shipments from collection through to final delivery.

• Proactively identify delays, customs issues and operational risks.

• Keep clients informed and ensure that queries and problems are addressed promptly.

• Develop strong relationships with customers, suppliers and regional stakeholders.

• Manage and develop operational staff within the region.

• Ensure operational procedures, compliance requirements and service standards are consistently followed.

• Assist with the growth and development of logistics business within the Northern Cape.

• Take responsibility for operational performance, cost control and service delivery.

Desired Experience & Qualification

We are looking for someone with solid practical experience in logistics rather than purely theoretical knowledge.

The ideal candidate will have

• Significant experience in road freight, freight forwarding or logistics operations.

• Strong experience with cross-border transport into Southern African countries .

• A good working knowledge of customs clearance procedures and documentation .

• Experience dealing with border posts, clearing agents and transport operators.

• An understanding of import and export processes.

• Previous supervisory, branch management or operational management experience.

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.

• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to deal directly with customers.

• Good commercial awareness and an understanding of logistics costs.

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.

• A willingness to become involved personally when an operational problem needs to be solved.

Experience within the mining, agricultural, project cargo, industrial or cross-border transport sectors would be advantageous.
