Introduction

An upmarket restaurant and cocktail venue in Sea Point is seeking professional, energetic and customer-focused Waiters/Waitresses to join its service team.

The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering exceptional food and beverage service, ensuring guests enjoy a memorable dining experience in a sophisticated and welcoming environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Guest Service and Hospitality

Welcome guests professionally and ensure they feel comfortable and valued throughout their visit.

Provide attentive, friendly and personalised service from arrival to departure.

Present menus, explain dishes, recommend food and beverage options, and answer guest enquiries.

Demonstrate knowledge of menu items, ingredients, preparation methods and available specials.

Make recommendations based on guest preferences and assist with dietary requirements by communicating these to the kitchen.

Handle guest requests, queries and complaints professionally, involving management where necessary.

Maintain a positive and professional attitude during busy service periods.

Food and Beverage Service

Take accurate food and beverage orders and enter them into the point-of-sale (POS) system.

Serve food and drinks promptly and according to the restaurant's service standards.

Ensure orders are communicated correctly to the kitchen and bar.

Serve cocktails, beverages and meals with attention to presentation and quality.

Check that guests are satisfied with their meals and address any concerns promptly.

Monitor tables throughout service and anticipate guests' needs without being intrusive.

Present bills accurately and process payments in accordance with venue procedures.

Cocktail and Beverage Knowledge

Develop a sound understanding of the restaurant's cocktail menu, wine list and beverage offerings.

Recommend signature cocktails, wines and other beverages to complement guests' meals.

Stay informed about new menu items, seasonal offerings and promotions.

Coordinate with bartenders to ensure beverage orders are prepared and delivered efficiently.

Follow responsible alcohol-service procedures and venue policies.

Table Management and Restaurant Presentation

Prepare tables before service, ensuring cutlery, crockery, glassware and table settings are clean and correctly arranged.

Maintain clean, organised and presentable dining areas throughout the shift.

Clear used plates and glassware promptly and reset tables efficiently.

Ensure tables are properly prepared for incoming guests.

Assist with opening and closing duties, including cleaning, restocking and general service preparation.

Follow the restaurant's standards for table presentation, hygiene and overall appearance.

Teamwork and Communication

Work closely with the kitchen, bar, hostess team and management to ensure smooth service.

Communicate orders, special requests and dietary requirements accurately.

Assist colleagues during peak periods to maintain service standards.

Attend pre-service briefings and remain informed about daily specials, reservations and operational updates.

Report stock shortages, equipment issues and guest concerns to the relevant supervisor.

Payments, Hygiene and Compliance

Handle cash, card payments and bills accurately.

Follow cash-handling and point-of-sale procedures.

Maintain high standards of personal hygiene, cleanliness and professional grooming.

Comply with food safety, workplace health and safety requirements.

Follow all restaurant policies, service procedures and responsible beverage-service guidelines.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Previous experience as a Waiter/Waitress in a restaurant, hotel, bar or similar hospitality environment.

Experience in an upmarket restaurant or cocktail venue will be advantageous.

Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong customer-service skills and a guest-focused attitude.

Professional appearance and good personal grooming.

Basic computer literacy and the ability to operate a POS system.

Good numerical skills and attention to detail when processing orders and payments.
