Requirements

  • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa HPCSA as an Ultrasound Radiographer. Current registration with the HPCSA for 2026/2027.
  • Certificate registration with HPCSA as a Diagnostic Sonographer, after completion of community service. Knowledge, skills, training and competencies in ultrasound principles required. Sound knowledge of specialized and general ultrasonography protocols and equipment. Comprehensive knowledge of ultrasound legislation. Knowledge of the OHS Act and other relevant Health Acts, including PFMA and HRM. Sound knowledge of ultrasound Quality Assurance programmes.
  • Knowledge of relevant public service regulations, legislation, policies, acts and procedures. Computer literacy MS Word, Ms. Excel. Compliance with budgeting, National Core Standards/Ideal Hospital Framework, Health and Safety and Infection Control principles. Good report-writing and communication skills. Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must have a good understanding of public hospital operational systems. Sound planning and organizational skills regarding resources, finance, and HR matters. Must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.

Duties

  • Render an effective patient-centred Ultrasound service for inpatients and outpatients in adherence to the scope of practice and health protocols. Prepare exam room and Ultrasound equipment to conduct Ultrasound examinations in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate and organize the daily workload and the smooth running of the department. Must have knowledge of the department functions. Maintain case records and statistics.
  • Excellent understanding and knowledge of PACS and HIS within the institution. Ensure equipment is adequately serviced. Abdominal scanning, general, vascular, small parts and joints body scans, paediatrics, and sound report writing. Attend seminars and workshops to stay up to date on new advances in techniques and technology.
  • Monitor stock and maintain adequate weekly, monthly, and patient statistics. Promote teamwork and interpersonal relationships amongst staff members and other health workers, and ensure protocols, policies, and procedures are in line with applicable legislation. Promote Batho Pele principles in the execution of duties for effective service delivery.
  • To adhere to Regulated Norms and Standards and Ideal Hospital Realization and Maintenance framework, Quality Assurance, and other Public Service policies and Acts. Perform any ad hoc duties assigned by Management. Be actively involved in in-service training for students and others, as well as partake in and facilitate CPD activities. Comply with the Performance Management and Development System contracting, quarterly reviews, and final assessment.
