Special Instructions: This is a target-driven, customer-facing commercial sales position. Candidates must have a genuine track record of generating new business and developing commercial vehicle sales opportunities.
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced COMMERCIAL TRUCK SALES EXECUTIVE / SPECIALIST to join an established sales operation serving customers throughout the Midvaal & Greater Johannesburg Region.
- This position is ideally suited to a proven commercial vehicle sales professional who knows how to find business, identify opportunities and develop long-term customer relationships.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for developing new and existing business across the territory, selling commercial vehicles and associated fleet solutions to businesses operating in sectors such as transport, logistics, construction, agriculture, distribution, manufacturing, mining-related operations, earthmoving and general commercial enterprise.
- This is not simply a showroom sales position.
- The successful candidate must be comfortable getting out into the market, prospecting for new business, making cold calls, visiting businesses, identifying fleet requirements, networking with decision-makers and converting opportunities into completed vehicle sales.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and grow commercial vehicle sales within the allocated Midvaal & Greater Johannesburg territory.
- Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities rather than relying solely on incoming enquiries.
- Build and maintain a sustainable pipeline of prospective commercial vehicle and fleet customers.
- Identify companies and operators with existing or future vehicle replacement, expansion or fleet requirements.
- Conduct regular face-to-face customer visits and develop strong relationships with business owners, fleet managers, transport managers, procurement personnel and other decision-makers.
- Generate new leads through cold calling, networking, referrals, industry contacts, existing relationships and direct market prospecting.
- Promote and sell new and used commercial vehicles appropriate to individual customer requirements.
- Understand customer operations and recommend suitable vehicle specifications, configurations and applications.
- Prepare quotations and sales proposals and manage opportunities through to successful conclusion.
- Negotiate professionally with customers while protecting margins and achieving agreed sales objectives.
- Identify opportunities for repeat business, additional vehicle purchases and fleet expansion.
- Maintain regular contact with existing customers to encourage customer retention and future sales.
- Develop relationships within the transport, logistics, construction, agricultural, distribution, manufacturing and related commercial sectors.
- Attend customer sites to understand operating requirements and vehicle applications.
- Keep abreast of commercial vehicle specifications, applications, market trends and competitor offerings.
- Assist customers with the vehicle selection process by clearly explaining specifications, applications, benefits and operating considerations.
- Liaise with internal sales, administration, finance and aftersales teams to ensure smooth processing of vehicle transactions.
- Follow up on quotations, proposals and outstanding sales opportunities.
- Maintain accurate customer information, prospect records, sales activity and pipeline information on the applicable CRM/system.
- Monitor competitor activity, market conditions and emerging sales opportunities within the territory.
- Participate in promotional activities, exhibitions, industry events and customer initiatives where required.
- Ensure professional follow-up before, during and after the sale.
- Assist with vehicle handovers and ensure that customers receive an appropriate level of service throughout the sales process.
- Develop a strong referral network capable of generating ongoing commercial vehicle sales.
- Achieve agreed monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets.
- Provide regular feedback regarding market activity, prospects, sales pipeline and customer requirements.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
- The successful candidate will be a hunter-type commercial salesperson who is confident approaching businesses and decision-makers and who understands that commercial vehicle sales are built through relationships, prospecting, market knowledge, persistence and follow-through.
- The ability to find the customer is considered particularly important.
- Candidates who have an established network of contacts within transport, logistics, construction, agriculture, distribution, fleet operations, mining-related businesses or related commercial sectors will be strongly considered.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent.
- Minimum 3–5 years' proven sales experience within the commercial vehicle, truck, fleet, automotive or closely related industry.
- Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.
- Demonstrable experience in new business development and customer acquisition.
- Previous experience selling commercial vehicles, trucks, trailers, fleet solutions or related capital equipment will be highly advantageous.
- Strong understanding of commercial vehicle applications and the requirements of different customer industries.
- Existing industry relationships and an established customer network will be advantageous.
- Experience dealing directly with business owners, fleet managers, transport operators and other senior decision-makers will be beneficial.
- Previous dealership or commercial sales experience will be advantageous.
- Experience with CRM systems and maintaining an accurate sales pipeline.
- Computer literate with the ability to prepare quotations, correspondence and sales reports.
- Valid Code 08 / Code B driver's licence is essential.
- A Code 14 / EC driver's licence will be an advantage.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the allocated sales territory.
