Job Advert Summary

  • The Training Facilitator is responsible for delivering high-quality, accredited, and in-house driver training across Unitrans operations. The role ensures that new and existing drivers are fully equipped, competent, and compliant with safety, operational, and customer service standards.
  • This includes conducting assessments, facilitating training, implementing behaviour-based coaching, and supporting operational sites with journey management, safety, and compliance activities.

Minimum Requirements

Skills / Experience

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate minimum requirement
  • Relevant Driver/Transport Training qualification or accreditation
  • Valid and appropriate driver's license including relevant heavy vehicle categories
  • Proven experience in driver training, assessments, and behaviour-based coaching
  • Experience in logistics, transport, or fleet operations
  • Understanding of SHERQ principles and accident/incident investigation processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Driver Assessments & Competency Evaluation

  • Conduct pre-employment practical driver assessments and provide recommendations to Contract Management.
  • Continuously assess the competencies of current and prospective drivers and implement improvement interventions.
  • Perform in-cab assessments at defined intervals to evaluate behaviour, skill, and compliance.

Training Delivery & Facilitation

  • Facilitate accredited Unit Standard–based, internal, and customer-specific training programmes.
  • Deliver training using clear explanations, practical examples, and appropriate terminology to ensure learner understanding.
  • Provide practical driving training aligned with the company training matrix.
  • Conduct on-route evaluations, coaching, and refresher training as required.

Behaviour-Based Coaching & Performance Improvement

  • Identify training needs arising from incidents, accidents, telematics data, DriveCam events, and fuel performance reports.
  • Develop and implement corrective training plans in collaboration with the Senior Training Officer.
  • Drive behaviour-change initiatives through structured coaching and reinforcement programmes.
  • Facilitate periodic safety meetings, toolbox talks, and stand-downs to promote safe and compliant behaviour.

Training Content Development

  • Develop new presentations, training materials, and learning content based on operational insights, site visits, incident trends, and assessment findings.
  • Continuously update and customise materials to address real-world driver behaviours and risks.

Journey & Site Management Support

  • Conduct periodic site visits to assess loading, offloading, entry, and exit procedures.
  • Review and update Journey Management Plans based on site feedback and route analysis tools.
  • Train drivers on different vehicle and trailer configurations, as well as site-specific loading and offloading procedures.

Reporting, Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of all training interventions, assessments, and outcomes.
  • Submit weekly reports and prepare required documentation for compliance and certification.
  • Support the SHERQ team with accident and incident investigations when required.

Operational Support

  • Deliver ad hoc and new training interventions as requested by management.
  • Provide contingency support during operational crises.
  • Perform additional reasonable duties to support operational requirements.
