An opportunity has become available for a Training & Business Development Manager to oversee and manage Lanseria International Airport Training Academy (LIATA), ensuring effective operational, academic, and administrative capabilities. Facilitate internal and external training programs, maintain high academic standards, and support business development initiatives. The successful incumbent will be based at Lanseria International Airport.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Academy Operations & Administration
- Oversee general operational and functional capabilities of LIATA.
- Ensure proper administration of all academy programs and activities.
- Manage and maintain the academy building, classrooms, assets, storerooms, and archives.
- Ensure upkeep of all equipment and facilities.
- Manage security, cleaning, and administrative staff.
- Implement and monitor OHS regulations, inspections, and feedback.
2. Academic Program Management
- Monitor and track all programs offered, including instructors, learning materials, timetables, assignments, assessments, and moderation.
- Recruit, brief, monitor, and quality-assure instructors’ work.
- Track student performance, marks, and moderation.
- Provide counselling, career guidance, and interventions for students with learning problems.
- Manage assessors and moderators, ensuring problem-solving strategies are implemented where needed.
- Plan and allocate resources for classes, textbooks, lecturers, and training venues.
- Management of the following processes: Set timetables, coordinate distribution and writing of exams, and manage supplementary/deferred exams.
- Ensure accurate and timely academic administration, including record-keeping and learner queries
3. Staff Management & Development
- Provide leadership, motivation, and support to ensure excellent customer service and staff performance.
- Conduct performance management, disciplinary hearings, and staff appraisals.
- Ensure staff understand and fulfil their duties and responsibilities.
- Create a conducive work environment for maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
- Conduct meetings and communicate tasks and expectations clearly.
- Identify staff training needs and upskills where required.
4. Business Development & Strategic Support
- Actively participate in strategic planning, sales, budgeting, and business plans.
- Support marketing, advertising, and business development initiatives.
- Maintain academic and corporate standards to enhance the LIATA brand.
- Contribute to management meetings and committees, including GM, academic, and sales/marketing meetings.
- Facilitate internal and external client training programs.
5. Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Ensure programs comply with learning and development standards, HR legislation, Skills Development Act, Learnership Act, EEA, and SAQA, SACAA and SAESI requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of SETA funding models and grant processes.
- Ensure all academy policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements are adhered to.
6. Innovation, Best Practice and System Implementation
- Ensure the optimal function of the current LITA LMS System.
- Manage E-Learning implementations.
- Stay abreast of industry best practice and future fit skill requirements.
- Manage the organizations training needs analysis in terms of the possible implementation of Automation and AI learning enhancements.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Matric (Grade 12).
- 3-year degree or related; Honours degree advantageous.
- 8–10 years in training/learning & development management; 3–5 years in people management.
- Knowledge of HRM, learning and development principles
- Strategic planning and implementation.
- Stakeholder management.
- MS Office Suite effectiveness.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage medium-sized teams.
- Project management of large-scale training programs.
- Negotiation and stakeholder engagement.
- Knowledge of SACAA regulation, SAESI accreditation regulation, Skills Development Act, Learnership Act, BBBEE.
- Report writing and presentation skills.
- Staff motivation, coaching, and development.
- High attention to detail, deadline-driven, and quality-focused.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently or within a team.
Package & Remuneration
- Basic R75 000.00 - R82 000.00 depending on experience
