Trade Union Sector Manager

Introduction

UASA REQUIRES THE SERVICES OF AN ETHICAL, HIGHLY MOTIVATED PROFESSIONAL INDIVIDUAL AS A SECTOR MANAGER WITHIN THE MINERALS DIVISION.

This is an itinerant post, and the successful applicant will be expected to travel and sleep out from time to time.

Job grading/salary band will be based on DL/DU, depending on skills, experience and qualifications.

A 6 (six) month probationary period will apply.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for, although not limited, to the following:

• Will be responsible for the Management and co-ordination of the Minerals Sector;

• Empower/train/guide branches, operational staff members with the required knowledge;

• Co-ordinate branches and sectors;

• Effectively manage and control costs/budgets;

• Co-ordinate and ensure quality service delivery to members including proper and adequate communication;

• Responsible to maintain and increase overall membership of UASA Nationally in this Sector;

• Promote the image, functions and purpose of UASA;

• Represent members on National Sector structures.

• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders;

• Ability to work as a team member within the Sector as well as in the respective Managerial forums

that the incumbent will be part of;

• Ability to write effective reports;

• Ability to liaise effectively with members and Mine Managers up to Minister level;

• Effective representation of members;

• UASA’s official communication langue is English. The ability to communicate in any of the other official

languages will be an advantage.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Higher Certificate (NQF 5) qualification in Human Resources / Labour Relations or equivalent RPL

• Proven Managerial and Leadership skills;

• Sound knowledge of the working of a Trade Union;

• Must have Mining Experience;

• Practical operational experience in all Sectors within the area of responsibility;

• Ability to plan strategically and to apply in practice;

• Computer Literate;

• Extensive travelling will be required and therefore a valid code 8 (EB) driver’s license and ownership/use of a roadworthy and reliable vehicle is essential;

• Reliable cell phone.

Job grading/salary band will be based on t he Paterson grading system, Level  DL/DU, depending on skills, experience and qualifications.
