A well-established law firm is looking for a Trade Mark Practitioner (Attorney) to join their Corporate & Commercial Trade Marks Department.

Minimum requirements

  • LLB Degree and admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
  • SAIIPL Trade Mark Examinations Group 1 & Group 2 completed.
  • Minimum 2 years post-admission experience specialising in Intellectual Property Law, with a strong focus on Trade Marks .
  • Proven experience in trade mark portfolio management and advising clients on IP protection strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently manage the Trade Mark division.
  • Conduct trade mark availability and clearance searches and provide strategic advice.
  • Manage local and international trade mark prosecution and registrations.
  • Attend to trade mark assignments, amendments, renewals, recordals and portfolio management.
  • Advise on and enforce trade mark, copyright and related IP rights.
  • Handle trade mark opposition and cancellation proceedings.
  • Draft, review and negotiate IP-related commercial agreements, including licence and coexistence agreements.
  • Handle company name objections and domain name disputes.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare IP opinions.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through commercially sound legal advice.
