Minimum requirements
- LLB Degree and admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
- SAIIPL Trade Mark Examinations Group 1 & Group 2 completed.
- Minimum 2 years post-admission experience specialising in Intellectual Property Law, with a strong focus on Trade Marks .
- Proven experience in trade mark portfolio management and advising clients on IP protection strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage the Trade Mark division.
- Conduct trade mark availability and clearance searches and provide strategic advice.
- Manage local and international trade mark prosecution and registrations.
- Attend to trade mark assignments, amendments, renewals, recordals and portfolio management.
- Advise on and enforce trade mark, copyright and related IP rights.
- Handle trade mark opposition and cancellation proceedings.
- Draft, review and negotiate IP-related commercial agreements, including licence and coexistence agreements.
- Handle company name objections and domain name disputes.
- Conduct legal research and prepare IP opinions.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through commercially sound legal advice.
