- A leading plastics manufacturing company is looking for an experienced Toolroom Supervisor with strong experience in plastic injection moulding, mould maintenance, and toolroom supervision to join their team in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing toolroom operations, ensuring mould integrity and optimal machine performance, while leading a team to support uninterrupted production through both supervisory and hands-on technical involvement.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily operations of the Toolroom and manage departmental resources.
- Ensure mould maintenance is completed to minimise machine downtime.
- Perform effective mould fault finding, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
- Conduct regular mould inspections and identify improvement opportunities.
- Oversee scheduled maintenance activities and ensure completion of job cards.
- Support new mould procurement, installation, modifications, and repairs.
- Liaise with external vendors and suppliers regarding tooling and spare parts.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and promote continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with plant safety procedures and management systems.
- Coach and mentor less experienced artisans and maintenance personnel.
- Enforce safe working practices and departmental procedures.
Requirements
- Matric.
- Trade Tested N3 Toolmaker qualification.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in a mould maintenance environment within plastic injection moulding.
- Minimum 5 years' supervisory experience.
- Strong hands-on technical ability in mould maintenance and repairs.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong organisational and delegation skills.
- Working knowledge of plant safety procedures.
- Good communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and liaise effectively with contractors and vendors.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends when required.
