Introduction

Zibo Containers, a leading manufacturer of thermoformed plastic packaging, is seeking a motivated and dynamic Toolroom Manager to join our team in Kuils River, Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective management of the Toolroom, ensuring efficient tool control, maintenance, technical support and team performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Toolroom, including the control, issuing, storage, maintenance and availability of tools, equipment and moulds.
  • Develop and maintain effective tool management systems, procedures, inventory controls and records, including regular stock and equipment audits.
  • Plan and oversee preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance of tools and equipment, providing technical support to Production and Maintenance to minimise downtime.
  • Review, approve and develop technical drawings, tooling designs and moulds, utilising CAD/CAM software and ensuring accuracy, manufacturability and compliance with required standards.
  • Support the New Business Development, Engineering, Production and Product Development teams with the design and development of new tools and moulds.
  • Lead, supervise, coach and develop Toolroom employees and technical draftsmen, ensuring effective teamwork, performance and continuous skills development.
  • Ensure compliance with SHE, GMP, quality, product safety and environmental requirements, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks and risk assessments, and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Manage Toolroom budgets, capital expenditure and departmental costs while identifying opportunities for cost savings and improved efficiency.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organised Toolroom and ensure proper documentation, reporting, disposal of waste and continuous improvement of tooling, equipment and processes.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
  • Relevant qualification in Toolmaking, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Toolroom, Toolmaking or similar manufacturing environment, with supervisory or management experience.
  • Proven experience in tool, mould and equipment management, maintenance and technical problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling technologies and maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health and Safety requirements and relevant quality standards.
  • Strong leadership, planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across Production, Engineering and Maintenance teams.
  • Computer literate with good administrative and reporting skills.
