Ensure compliance with SHERQ and Legal requirements and participate in the Mine Health and Safety program. Responsible to coordinate the execution of maintenance activities and monthly reporting. Support the preliminary analysis, statistical monitoring, and reporting of all failures. Perform over inspections on equipment as required. Take a lead of MOSH Traffic Management Leading Practice implementation. This is an appointment in terms of Minerals Act 50 of 1991, Regulation 2.13.3.1 (as amended).
Duties & Responsibilities
TECHNICAL DUTIES
- Ensure effective asset availability and reliability
- Liaise with production teams and account for the performance of the section
- Ensure and maintain Legal Compliance, Audits and Governance
- Implement the maintenance in accordance with maintenance schedules paying careful attention to deadlines and budget control
- Oversee all maintenance and repair work, ensuring adherence to health & safety standards, to relevant items list but not limited to: o TMMs
- o Water and Sewage Treatment Plants o Housing
- Participation in the planning and execution of engineering and construction projects
- Manage and coordinate all engineering and construction projects, including liaising with external contractors, ensuring completion on time and within budget
ADMINISTRATION
- Compile monthly Engineering report
- Develop and update Code of Practice (COP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Provide input into Engineering budgets for both maintenance work and specific projects
- Ensure strict cost controls relative to expenditure against budget
- Maintain planned maintenance functionality
- Maintain equipment records
STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
- Manage internal relationships including continuous communication regarding availability of stock and nonstock items
- Develop and maintain relationships with contractors and OEMs
HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGEMENT
- Participate actively in the health & safety programme
- Ensure that the correct PPE is used where required
- Ensure housekeeping and cleanliness in all areas
- Report all incidents or accidents
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
- Set KPA and monitor performance and output of subordinates
- Monitor and enforce discipline in accordance with company policies and procedures
- Conduct annual performance reviews and submit reports as per company policy and procedure
- Provide guidance and training to develop subordinates
- Monitor absenteeism, attendance and sign off leave applications
- Ability to deliver under pressure - 250 permanent employees 250 contractors
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Fitness Certificate
- Understanding & application of Health & Safety Principles
- Degree/Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
- GCC Electrical/Mechanical Engineering for Mines and Works
- 7+ years experience in a mining environment of which 3 years experience as TMM Section Engineer (Legal Appointee)
- Must have good cognitive and analytical abilities
- Experience in various engineering maintenance strategies
- Experience in managing large contractor mining operation will be advantageous
- Experience in implementation of MOSH Traffic Management Leading Practice
- Project management experience would be highly advantageous
- Working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act No. 29 of 1996 and Regulations Occupational Health & Safety
- Planned maintenance practices
- In-depth knowledge of Trackless Mobile Machines (TMMs)
- Financial acumen
- Drivers license (Code 08)
- Negotiation skills
- Computer literacy (MS Office, MS Projects, SAP)
