The Tender Engineer will be responsible for preparing and submitting competitive technical and commercial bids for electrical infrastructure projects, including substations, transmission lines, and renewable energy plants. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in tender preparation.  This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop winning proposals.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Tender Preparation and Submission

  • Prepare and compile comprehensive bids and tenders for electrical infrastructure projects in compliance with client requirements and deadlines.
  • Analyze tender documents, including technical specifications, scope of work, and contractual and commercial terms, to ensure a clear understanding of project requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (e.g., engineer, procurement, finance, and legal) to gather necessary information and inputs for tender submissions.

2. Cost Estimation and Pricing

  • Develop accurate cost estimates for materials, labour, equipment, and other project-related expenses.
  • Collaborate with the procurement and finance teams to obtain competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Ensure all cost estimates align with project scope, timelines, and quality standards.

3. Technical Proposal Development

  • Prepare technical proposals, including methodologies, project plans, and resource allocation, to demonstrate the company’s capability to deliver the project.
  • Highlight the company’s strengths, experience, and competitive advantages in the proposal.
  • Ensure technical proposals are aligned with client requirements and industry best practices.

4. Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure all tender submissions comply with client requirements, legal regulations, and company policies.
  • Identify and assess risks associated with tender submissions and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Review and negotiate contract terms to protect the company’s interests.

5. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers to clarify tender requirements and address queries.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to enhance the company’s reputation and competitiveness.
  • Attend pre-tender meetings, site visits, and post-tender negotiations as required.

6. Documentation and Record-Keeping

  • Maintain a comprehensive database of tender documents, including past submissions, pricing models, and technical proposals.
  • Ensure all tender-related documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible for future reference.
  • Prepare and submit post-tender reports and analysis to senior management.

7. Continuous Improvement

  • Analyse past tender outcomes to identify areas for improvement and implement best practices.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities to enhance the company’s competitiveness.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

  • Diploma/Degree in Engineering

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in preparing bids and tenders for infrastructure projects, particularly in substations, transmission lines, and renewable energy plants.
  • Proven track record of successful tender submissions in both private and government sectors.
  • Experience in cost estimation, technical proposal development, and contract negotiation.
  • A proven track record of fulfilling a similar role successfully.

  • Technical Knowledge : Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure projects and construction methods.
  • Attention to Detail : Ensuring accuracy and completeness in tender submissions.
  • Analytical Skills : Ability to analyse tender requirements and develop competitive proposals.
  • Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Time Management : Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Software Proficiency : Familiarity with tender management software, MS Office Suite, and cost estimation tools.
