Job Title: Technician – East London Start Date: 2026-08-07 - 2026-09-06 Vacancy Type: Permanent JHB000513 Sectors: Heavy Equipment / Earthmoving Plant Location: Eastern Cape , East London Salary: Brief: Technician East London Job Purpose A leading supplier of heavy equipment and machinery is seeking a qualified and experienced Technician to join its East London branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and inspections on a range of heavy equipment and machinery, ensuring maximum equipment reliability and customer satisfaction. The role requires a hands-on technician with strong fault-finding skills, the ability to work independently both in the workshop and in the field, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship while adhering to manufacturer standards and safety regulations. Detail: Key Responsibilities Equipment Maintenance & Repairs Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment and machinery. Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic faults. Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems. Conduct equipment inspections and identify repair requirements. Ensure all repairs are completed to manufacturer specifications. Test equipment after repairs to verify performance and reliability. Field Service Support Attend customer sites to diagnose and repair equipment breakdowns. Perform emergency breakdown repairs efficiently to minimise customer downtime. Commission new equipment and conduct pre-delivery inspections where required. Provide customers with technical advice regarding equipment operation and maintenance. Complete service reports and job documentation accurately. Diagnostics & Troubleshooting Use diagnostic software and specialised tools to identify faults. Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems. Recommend corrective actions and preventative maintenance solutions. Escalate complex technical issues where necessary. Workshop Operations Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment. Ensure workshop tools and equipment are correctly maintained. Follow company service procedures and quality standards. Assist with workshop housekeeping and inventory control. Customer Service Deliver professional and courteous service to customers. Communicate repair requirements and recommendations clearly. Build positive customer relationships through quality workmanship and reliable service. Represent the company professionally during field service visits. Health, Safety & Compliance Comply with Occupational Health and Safety requirements. Ensure safe working practices at all times. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions promptly. Minimum Requirements Grade 12 (Matric). Qualified Trade Test as a: Diesel Mechanic Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic Heavy Equipment Mechanic Auto Electrician Or equivalent recognised trade qualification. Valid Code 8 driver's licence (Code 10 or 14 advantageous). Computer literacy (MS Office). Ability to use electronic diagnostic equipment. Experience Required Minimum 3–5 years' post-trade experience working on heavy equipment or earthmoving machinery. Experience servicing and repairing construction, mining, agricultural, or material handling equipment. Strong fault-finding and diagnostic experience. Experience working both in a workshop and on customer sites. Experience using manufacturer diagnostic software will be advantageous.
