Job Title: Technical Trainer – Trade Tested Artisan Start Date: 2026-08-26 - 2026-09-25 Vacancy Type: Fixed Term Contract NCM003361 Sectors: Artisan Location: KwaZulu-Natal , Durban Central Salary: (Market related, Negotiable) Brief: A leading manufacturing organisation is seeking an experienced Technical Trainer to join its team and play a key role in developing the technical capability of employees, apprentices, learners and junior artisans. This is an ideal opportunity for a Trade Tested Artisan with strong hands-on industrial experience who is passionate about transferring technical knowledge and developing the next generation of skilled artisans. The successful candidate will combine practical trade expertise with effective classroom and workplace-based training. Current technical trainer roles commonly require a recognised trade qualification, post-trade industrial experience, and the ability to deliver both theoretical and practical training. Detail: Key Responsibilities Develop and facilitate technical training programmes for artisans, apprentices, learners and employees. Conduct both theoretical and practical training aligned with relevant trade and workplace requirements. Provide hands-on demonstrations relating to machinery, equipment, maintenance and fault-finding. Develop and maintain training material, learner guides, presentations, practical exercises and assessments. Assess learners' technical competence and provide constructive feedback. Identify skills gaps and conduct Training Needs Analysis (TNA) where required. Coach, mentor and support apprentices and junior artisans in their technical development. Prepare learners and apprentices for trade testing and workplace competency assessments. Provide on-the-job training and ensure that technical knowledge is effectively transferred into the workplace. Maintain accurate training records, assessment results and learner progress reports. Monitor training effectiveness and recommend improvements to technical training programmes. Assist with the development and implementation of multi-skilling and upskilling programmes. Ensure training activities comply with applicable OHS, company and industry standards. Maintain training equipment, tools and practical training areas in a safe and operational condition. Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance and Production teams to ensure training addresses real operational requirements. Keep abreast of new technologies, equipment, maintenance practices and developments within the manufacturing environment. Minimum Requirements Matric / Grade 12. Recognised Trade Test Certificate – Essential. Qualified Millwright, Electrician, Fitter & Turner or relevant Artisan trade. Minimum 5 years' post-trade experience in a manufacturing, engineering, industrial or production environment. Proven hands-on experience working with industrial machinery and production equipment. Previous experience in technical training, coaching, mentoring or skills development. Strong practical knowledge of maintenance, fault-finding and troubleshooting. Good understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems, depending on trade background. Computer literacy, particularly MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to confidently present technical information to individuals with varying levels of technical knowledge. Advantageous Facilitator / Train-the-Trainer qualification. Assessor and/or Moderator qualification. ODETDP or related occupationally directed education, training and development qualification. Experience working with QCTO, SETA, NQF, apprenticeships or learnership programmes. Experience preparing candidates for trade testing. Experience developing technical training material and assessments. PLC, automation, hydraulics, pneumatics or instrumentation exposure.
