  • Macsteel Fluid Control is seeking a skilled and experienced External Sales Representative to join the team in the Mpumalanga Secunda region.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for growing existing business, identifying new sales opportunities, developing customer relationships, and providing technical and commercial support to customers. The role requires a self-motivated individual with strong sales ability, sound product knowledge, and a proven track record of achieving sales and profitability targets.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4–5 Essential
  • Relevant sales, business, or technical qualification Advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years' technical sales experience within the Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, Mining or Heavy Industrial sector.
  • Strong understanding of valves, actuators, pipes, fittings, flanges, steam systems, instrumentation and Fluid Control products.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards API, ASME, ISO, SANS where applicable.
  • Experience working with Petrochemical, oil and gas or similar industrial customers advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of SP Specifications, Fluid Control products and applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Mpumalanga market.
  • Preferably based Secunda, or surrounding areas.
  • Ability to engage technically and commercially at all levels.
  • Proficient in SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a results-driven environment.
  • Team player with strong problem-solving, planning, and decision-making abilities.
  • Valid Code B driver's licence.

Duties and Responsibilities Sales & Business Development

  • Service and grow the existing customer base Regionally to serve Petrochem/Oil & Gas.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities to increase sales, profitability and market share.
  • Achieve agreed sales and gross profit targets.
  • Implement sales plans and customer engagement strategies to support business objectives.
  • Promote Fluid Control products and solutions to existing and potential customers.
  • Promote engineered Fluid Control solutions rather than only standard products.
  • Identify opportunities during plant shutdowns, maintenance activities and capital projects.
  • Develop relationships with engineering consultants, EPC contractors and maintenance service providers.
  • Conduct technical product presentations and training sessions for customers.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and key decision-makers.
  • Conduct regular customer visits in accordance with approved call plans.
  • Provide commercial and technical support to customers.
  • Resolve customer concerns and maintain high levels of customer service.
  • Engage professionally with Engineering Managers, Maintenance Managers, Plant Managers, Process Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Instrument Engineers and Reliability Engineers.
  • Attend technical meetings with customers to identify operational challenges and recommend suitable Fluid Control solutions.
  • Support customers during project planning, installation, commissioning and post-installation activities.

Technical & Commercial Support

  • Provide technical support on valves, actuators, steam equipment, safety interlocks, valve automation, strainers, instrumentation and associated Fluid Control products.
  • Prepare accurate costing and quotation calculations.
  • Liaise with management regarding pricing, contracts, and special pricing requirements.
  • Review customer specifications and recommend suitable products.
  • Assist customers during commissioning, start-up and troubleshooting of Fluid Control products.
  • Conduct on-site technical inspections and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Work closely with internal engineering and suppliers to resolve technical issues.
  • Assist in preparing technical proposals, product selection and datasheets.
  • Ensure supplied products comply with customer specifications and applicable engineering standards.

Market Intelligence & Reporting

  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and provide market feedback to management.
  • Identify upcoming shutdowns, maintenance campaigns and capital projects.
  • Monitor new technologies and product developments within the Fluid Control industry.

Technical Knowledge

  • Ability to read and interpret: P&IDs, PFDs, Mechanical drawings, Valve datasheets, Equipment datasheets & Process specifications.
  • Knowledge of: valve, pipe, actuation, applications, pressure and temperature ratings, material specifications, etc.
