Position Overview Our client is a leading supplier of hydraulic equipment and engineered fluid power solutions to the South African mining industry. We are seeking a technically competent and highly motivated Technical Sales Representative to manage and grow an established customer base within the mining sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing long-term customer relationships, and providing technical support to mines and contractors operating in the Burgersfort or Rustenburg regions. This role is ideal for an individual with hands-on engineering or mining experience who enjoys solving technical problems while building strong commercial relationships. The successful candidate must have extensive knowledge of the local mining industry, be comfortable visiting underground operations, and possess the credibility to engage confidently with engineering and maintenance teams. Detail: Purpose of the Position To increase regional sales and profitability by promoting hydraulic power equipment and engineered solutions to mining customers while delivering exceptional technical support and customer service. The Technical Sales Representative will become the trusted technical advisor to customers, ensuring equipment reliability, identifying improvement opportunities, and supporting the successful implementation of engineering solutions. Key Responsibilities Sales & Business Development Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing mining customers. Identify and secure new business opportunities within the assigned territory. Promote the company's complete hydraulic power equipment portfolio. Generate new leads through regular customer visits and networking. Conduct cold calling and business development activities. Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets. Increase market share within the assigned region. Develop account growth strategies for key customers. Prepare quotations, proposals and tender submissions. Negotiate pricing within delegated authority. Follow up quotations to maximise conversion rates. Maintain an active sales pipeline using the company CRM system. Prepare accurate sales forecasts and activity reports. Technical Sales Support Provide technical support for products including: Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs) Hydraulic Pumps Hydraulic Motors Hydraulic Cylinders Hydraulic Valves Filtration Systems Hose Assemblies Power Packs Pressure Control Equipment Hydraulic Accessories Fluid Power Systems Responsibilities include: Understanding customer applications and operating conditions. Recommending suitable engineering solutions. Assisting customers with product selection. Providing technical advice and troubleshooting support. Conducting product demonstrations and presentations. Supporting commissioning and installation activities. Investigating equipment failures and recommending corrective actions. Liaising with internal engineering and service departments. Mining Customer Support Develop and maintain relationships with: Mine Managers Engineering Managers Section Engineers GCC Engineers Mechanical Engineers Maintenance Managers Engineering Foremen Supervisors Procurement Managers Technical Buyers Reliability Engineers Plant Managers Underground Maintenance Teams Mining Contractors OEM Partners Provide ongoing technical support to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business. Underground Mine Visits The successful candidate will regularly visit underground mining operations to: Conduct equipment inspections. Support customers during installations. Monitor equipment performance. Assist with commissioning activities. Investigate equipment failures. Recommend engineering improvements. Ensure products are installed according to company standards. Build relationships with underground engineering teams. Support shutdown activities when required. Candidates must be physically fit and willing to work underground on a regular basis. Territory Management Manage a dedicated sales territory by: Planning daily customer visits. Prioritising key accounts. Developing strategic account plans. Identifying opportunities for cross-selling and upselling. Monitoring competitor activities. Reporting market intelligence. Maintaining accurate customer records. Ensuring timely follow-up on all customer enquiries. Customer Relationship Management Deliver exceptional customer service by: Responding promptly to customer enquiries. Providing technical support before and after sales. Managing customer expectations. Resolving complaints professionally. Building long-term partnerships. Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Acting as the primary point of contact within the assigned territory. Administration & Reporting Prepare weekly activity reports. Submit monthly sales forecasts. Maintain CRM records. Prepare customer visit reports. Monitor quotation conversion rates. Manage expense reports. Assist with tender documentation. Maintain accurate customer information. Report market trends and competitor activity. SHEQ Responsibilities Comply with: Mine Health and Safety Act Occupational Health and Safety Act Mine Safety Procedures Customer SHEQ requirements Company policies and procedures Promote a strong culture of safety during all customer visits and site activities. Minimum Requirements Qualifications National Diploma, BTech or Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical or Mining Engineering preferred. Trade Test (Millwright, Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, Hydraulic Technician or similar) will be highly advantageous. Technical sales training or commercial qualification will be beneficial. Experience Minimum 5 years' experience in: Technical sales within mining. Hydraulic or fluid power equipment. Mechanical engineering. Mining equipment sales. Engineering services. Customer relationship management. Business development. Underground mining environments. Essential Technical Knowledge Working knowledge of: Underground mining operations. Hydraulic systems. Condition monitoring principles. Local Market Knowledge Candidates must currently reside in or have extensive experience within either the Burgersfort/Steelpoort mining region or the Rustenburg mining region. A strong understanding of the local mining industry is essential, including experience working with platinum, chrome, ferrochrome or related mining operations. Existing relationships with engineering managers, maintenance teams, procurement personnel and mining contractors in these regions will be highly advantageous. Mandatory Requirements Valid South African driver's licence. Own reliable vehicle. Willingness to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory.
