The Company designs and manufactures wastewater and water treatment equipment — thickeners, clarifiers, front rake screens, aerators and related plant — and pairs it with agency lines from FSM (Wilo Group) and Kent Stainless to deliver complete treatment solutions. Built on a long history in the municipal sector, the business is now growing deliberately into mining, food and beverage, industrial manufacturing, and oil and gas. It is a hands-on, family-run business in which the two directors remain closely involved in every transaction, and in which a new appointment can genuinely shape how a department is built.
The Company is recruiting Technical Sales Engineers to take responsibility for an assigned vertical — its accounts, its EPCs, its consultants and its target — and to sell complete solutions rather than individual items from a catalogue.
This is a two-way development role, and applicants should understand what that means before applying. The company's directors hold complete command of the equipment scope of supply — what it does, how it is costed, and where it is correctly applied — and will provide comprehensive training accordingly. What they do not hold is direct experience in mining, food and beverage, industrial manufacturing or oil and gas, their own careers having been built in the municipal sector. Candidates are therefore recruited to bring that vertical knowledge to the role, and to share it with the business as they progress.
This represents a distinctive form of professional development: the successful candidate will receive substantial product and process support and will in turn become the person on whom the company relies for genuine expertise in the relevant sector.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for an assigned vertical, including its named accounts, relevant trigger events, and its twelve-month campaign plan.
- Sell across the full offering: The Company’s own manufactured equipment together with represented agency lines, assembled into designed, multi-item solutions rather than quoted individually.
- Conduct site surveys and circuit audits, interpret effluent and flow data, and work with the Engineering department to size and select equipment.
- Build relationships with the EPCs, consulting engineers and contractors active within the assigned vertical, and secure specification of equipment at design stage.
- Provide structured field input to inform product development, including identified gaps in the current scope, the extent of demand, and indicative value.
- Present at least one technical session per year to consulting engineers within the assigned vertical.
- Maintain accurate and current CRM records, and submit complete, well-briefed quotation requests to the internal sales desk.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- BEng, BTech or National Diploma in Mechanical, Chemical, Process, Civil or Water engineering, or demonstrably equivalent engineering experience.
- Direct experience in the vertical applied for: mining, food and beverage, industrial manufacturing, or oil and gas. This is essential rather than preferred; the company can provide training in the product, but not in the sector.
- Five or more years in technical or solution sales of industrial capital equipment, with a verifiable record of closing multi-item or plant-level orders.
- Able to read and interpret P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, process flow diagrams and equipment datasheets.
- Commercial numeracy: margin, landed cost, escalation, payment terms, life-cycle cost and payback calculations.
- Valid driver's licence and genuine willingness to travel 40–60% of the time, including to plant and mine sites.
- Physically able and prepared to work on operating industrial sites, subject to the relevant safety inductions and medical assessments.
Advantageous
- Working knowledge of wastewater unit processes — screening, grit removal, clarification, thickening, dewatering, aeration.
- An established personal network among end users, EPCs and consulting engineers active within the relevant vertical.
- Experience selling through EPCs, consulting engineers and formal tender processes.
- ECSA registration (Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Pr Techni Eng).
Package & Remuneration
- A structured, phased first year, comprising product and process training, joint site visits with the directors, and no individual target until month four.
- Genuine two-way development: candidates are recruited for the expertise they already possess, rather than required to conform to a predetermined sales profile.
- A substantive role in shaping new products, with field input feeding directly into Engineering and R&D.
- A defined path to Vertical Sales Manager once the assigned vertical sustains the revenue required to support the position.
- R40 000 – R50 000 as the guaranteed package, with an additional performance-based commission/incentive structure.
