The Technical Manager is responsible for leading the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and support of electronic security systems. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards while managing technical teams and maintaining excellent client relationships.
Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Manage all technical operations relating to CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Alarm Systems, Electric Fencing, Intercoms, Perimeter Detection, and Integrated Security Platforms.
- Provide technical guidance to engineers, technicians, and subcontractors.
- Review and approve system designs, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Ensure installations comply with client specifications, industry standards, and company procedures.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide effective solutions.
Project Management
- Plan and oversee multiple installation and maintenance projects simultaneously.
- Allocate technical resources and manage project schedules.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Conduct project quality inspections and final commissioning.
- Coordinate with suppliers, clients, and project stakeholders.
Team Management
- Recruit, mentor, and develop technical staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify training requirements.
- Ensure technicians maintain high workmanship standards.
- Manage technician productivity and resource utilisation.
Client Relations
- Attend client meetings and technical presentations.
- Provide technical advice and recommendations.
- Handle technical escalations and customer complaints.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
- Maintain company safety standards on all sites.
- Ensure all installations comply with applicable South African regulations and industry best practices.
- Conduct risk assessments before project commencement.
Administration
- Prepare technical reports and project documentation.
- Review quotations and technical proposals.
- Manage equipment, tools, and technical inventory.
- Monitor project costs and technical budgets.
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Education
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant security industry certifications are advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 8 years' experience in electronic security systems.
- Minimum 3-5 years in a management or supervisory role.
- Proven experience managing technical teams.
- Experience delivering large commercial or government security projects.
