The incumbent will be expected to do the following
- Coordinating and managing all research projects within the department, and evaluating all documents to be submitted;
- Maintaining updated versions of all ethics forms electronically, ensuring timely completion and record-keeping, and monitoring the progress of research applications on behalf of researchers;
- Sending regular reminders to staff and students on submissions on renewal deadlines, and assisting with ethics submissions for the department and SAMRC Kalafong;
- Managing research publication output submissions and uploading research output on the InfoEd and SAMRC systems;
- Establishing and maintaining a monthly method to track and control publications across all stages, from planned to accepted, in press and published;
- Submitting all articles and ISSN or DOI proof to the UP RIMS system for Department of Higher Education approval and subsidy, and ensuring that all qualifying and non-accredited publications are uploaded;
- Providing the annual briefing on research aspects for MMed students, and guiding postgraduate students through registration, proposal writing, and committee and ethics processes;
- Proofreading and language-editing of articles, manuscripts and theses in accordance with University of Pretoria guidelines, and assisting with journal article searches and funding applications;
- Assisting students with the preparation and proofreading of PhD committee applications, and providing a University of Pretoria standard template for thesis and proposal write-up;
- Ensuring that all manuscripts are submitted to accredited journals and prepared in accordance with each journal's style requirements;
- Editing references, proofreading final versions, and guiding staff towards submissions to Department of Higher Education-approved and ISI indexed journals;
- Managing payments of journal publication fees on the University of Pretoria accredited list.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A relevant three-year diploma;
- 1 years' research and administrative experience.
OR
- Grade 12;
- 3 years' research and administrative experience.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES
- Computer literacy with broad knowledge and experience in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EndNote, Gmail and advanced Microsoft 365 skills;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, highly organised and a keen commitment to excellence;
- The ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders by listening to and responding to identified needs;
- The ability to work under pressure and without supervision, to identify and resolve problems, and to perform routine tasks accurately;
- Excellent verbal and written language and communication skills;
- Ability to pay attention to detail and work accurately;
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES
- Bachelor's degree with research background;
- Additional research and administrative experience or support;
- Driver's licence.
