Description

  • Plans and coordinates the application of procedures and sequences associated with vector control programs and vector borne communicable diseases, through case investigations, outbreak control response, inspections, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and enforcing compliance, and instituting remedial measures in order to ensure the provision of clean and healthy environment conducive to and supporting a better quality of life of the residence of the district.
  • Carrying out of routine surveillance actions and surveys to determine the prevalence of vectors.
  • Identification of vectors, their habitats and breeding places and instituting remedial and preventative measures.
  • Monitoring of high-risk areas.
  • Assist in administrative duties by receiving and minor complaints in a complaints book;
  • Fill out monthly timesheets for vector control staff;
  • Assist in labelling and filling out forms of samples collected for analysis.
  • Health educations and awareness campaigns by conducting basic health education programmes on vectors and their modes of transmitting disease;
  • Co-ordinating community cleanup campaigns;
  • Visiting schools, wards, traditional councils and churches in order to create awareness on signs symptoms and treatment of these conditions and disease;
  • Assist during rabies and other communicable disease vaccination campaigns
  • Identify vector and rodent breeding sites to be visited;
  • Ensure effective and correct application of chemicals;
  • Community awareness campaigns on zoonotic disease and control thereof by education and training.
  • Train and orientate new staff members
  • Collection and analysis of specimens

Requirements

Preferred Requirements

  • Certificate in Vector Control / Pest Control Management
  • Diploma / Degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or Biological Sciences will be an added advantage
  • 2 – 3 years experience in vector control operations mosquito, rodent, fly management, and/or in municipal health or environmental services
  • Valid Code EB driver's license
  • Computer literacy MS Office: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel
