- Grade 12.
- Basic training qualification.
- Code B driver's licence.
- No criminal record.
- Firearm proficiency.
- National Diploma, preferably in Policing.
- Eight years or more relevant experience required inclusive of proven supervisory/managerial experience.
Key attributes and competencies
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and at least one other official local language.
- The incumbent will be required to implement policies and procedures and ensures that by-laws, regulations and crime prevention are enforced. They will manage a number of operational areas; and ensure optimal use and maintenance of resources and equipment, and adherence to performance management criteria.
- Interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Community and customer care, service delivery orientation.
- Patrol, enforcement and emergency response.
- Operational planning and reporting.
- Financial and administrative functions.
- Supervision, control and management of staff performance.
- Operational management – crime prevention and law enforcement, traffic policing and road safety, specialised functions and systems.
- The physical attributes associated with this post necessitates that the incumbent is physically fit and able-bodied to perform the relevant functions, and as such, shortlisted candidates will be required to submit themselves to the Municipal Medical Doctor to be medically examined as part of the selection process.

Job purpose
- Supervising and controlling all functions/activities within one geographical sub-area to create and maintain a safe environment through policing, enforcing traffic legislation and enforcing Local Authority by-laws, to perform all functions related to the specialised units to ensure effective and efficient service delivery through the implementation of applicable strategies, plans and policies.
- As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
