Location: Lephalale , Limpopo
Contractor Role Reporting to Operations
Job Purpose We are seeking an experienced Substation Maintenance Technician to provide operational, preventative, and corrective maintenance support on medium- and high-voltage substation electrical systems. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform operational and preventative maintenance on substation electrical equipment.
- Conduct corrective maintenance and fault-finding activities.
- Assist with updates, upgrades, and performance optimization of substation equipment and systems.
- Perform inspections, testing, and maintenance per approved procedures.
- Assist with installation, modification, and commissioning of electrical equipment.
- Work on MV and HV electrical systems, including systems such as 3.3kV, 6.6kV, 11kV, and 33kV.
- Support maintenance of Electrical Balance of Plant (EBoP) within the HV transmission environment.
- Identify electrical faults, provide technical solutions, and maintain accurate records.
- Prepare and submit technical and service reports.
- Monitor equipment condition, report potential failures, and ensure contractual compliance.
- Liaise with clients, act as technical representative, and escalate issues appropriately.
Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years' electrical experience and practical knowledge of MV systems.
- Experience in substation maintenance, EBoP, and electrical drawings interpretation.
- Driver's license, computer literacy, and willingness to travel.
- Must be medically fit for industrial/substation environment.
Advantageous Qualifications The following will be highly advantageous: • Previous substation maintenance experience. • Working safety within live substations. • Experience with HV and MV electrical equipment. • Valid ORHVS Certificate and ECSA registration. • Knowledge of Construction Regulations and major electrical equipment manufacturers.
Technical Knowledge Understanding of MV and HV electrical systems, EBoP, maintenance procedures, fault finding, and occupational health & safety. Safety Responsibilities Compliance with OH&S policies, site-specific safety instructions, and safety procedures. Customer Responsibilities Respond to customer requirements, provide technical support, communicate clearly, and maintain professional relationships. Key Skills and Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge, fault-finding abilities, and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, safety awareness, and ability to work under pressure.
- Good planning, organizational skills, and customer service approach.
