Our client in the property industry is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Student / Junior Accountant to join their finance team in Stellenbosch. This role is ideal for a candidate who has completed or is currently completing an accounting qualification and is looking to build a long-term career within the property sector.
The successful candidate will assist with the day-to-day financial operations of the business, ensuring accurate financial records, supporting month-end processes, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Administration
- Process daily financial transactions accurately and timeously.
- Prepare and capture journal entries.
- Maintain the general ledger and supporting schedules.
- Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end financial processes.
- Ensure financial records are accurate and up to date.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process supplier invoices and payments.
- Reconcile supplier statements.
- Assist with debtor invoicing and collections.
- Resolve supplier and customer account queries.
- Allocate receipts and payments accurately.
Property Accounting Support
- Assist with property income and expense reconciliations.
- Support tenant billing and rental reconciliations.
- Process municipal and utility charges where applicable.
- Assist with lease-related financial administration.
- Prepare financial information relating to property portfolios.
Financial Reporting
- Assist with monthly management reports.
- Prepare supporting schedules for financial statements.
- Compile VAT schedules and supporting documentation.
- Assist with audit preparation and external audit requests.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies.
Compliance & Administration
- Maintain accurate accounting records.
- File and archive financial documentation.
- Assist with statutory submissions where required.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the finance department.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications
- BCom Accounting, Accounting Diploma, or similar qualification.
- Candidates currently studying towards a SAICA, SAIPA, or CIMA qualification are encouraged to apply.
Experience
- 0–2 years' accounting or finance experience.
- Experience within the property industry will be advantageous.
- Internship or articles experience will be beneficial.
Technical Skills
- Microsoft Excel (Intermediate).
- Experience working on accounting software (Sage, Xero, Pastel, QuickBooks, or similar).
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Understanding of accounting principles.
- Knowledge of VAT and reconciliations.
