Job Purpose

  • To develop, coordinate and evaluate the implementation of the institutional gender transformation

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Matric
  • Post-Graduate qualification in transformation related fields such as Gender Studies; Social Sciences and Humanities, Development Studies
  • 5 years in managing a transformation-related field.

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

Gender equality and diversity coordination

  • Assist with the development and implementation of equality, diversity and inclusion strategies, plans, and processes.
  • Coordinate gender equality, diversity and inclusivity to enhance gender transformation in line with legislative and policy directives of higher education.
  • Support initiatives that are aimed at encouraging access, retention and support concerning gender equality, diversity and inclusivity.
  • Ensure that gender equality, diversity and inclusivity are mainstreamed in faculty, units and department's transformation plans.
  • Facilitate faculties', units' and departments' integration of gender transformation in social inclusion areas such as race, sexual orientation, disability, language and other related intolerances in line with the policy on the realization of Social Inclusion in higher education.
  • Provide support for the GBV interventions programmes.

Research, Policy Development & Implementation

  • Provide research support on gender equality, diversity, and inclusion and provide Institutional feedback.
  • Research global gender transformation and analyze gender related developments, public policy issues and trends, and impact on strategy in Africa region, and translate into practical plans.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of equality, diversity and inclusion policies.
  • Advise and support the review on integrating gender equality, diversity and inclusivity in all policies and programmes of work for students and staff.

Awareness & Training

  • Facilitate training to ensure that faculties, units and departments understand the principles of gender equality, diversity and inclusion and that they are embedded in every aspect of their work.
  • Coordinate and support training and capacity building to support tolerance of linguistic, cultural and religious diversity on gender equality, diversity and inclusivity.

Monitoring, Reporting & Evaluation

  • Provide gender related reports as required.
  • Contribute to quarterly and annual reports, and other reports of the unit.
  • Ensure fair, transparent, responsive M&E consolidated reports in line with relevant legislation and policies in higher education.
  • Work in partnership with the HC and DSA team to develop, implement, monitor and review processes and procedures, including recruitment, learning and development, management information provision, monitoring and reporting to ensure staff and students' gender equality, diversity and inclusivity are mainstreamed across the work of the university.
  • Collect disaggregated gender data from faculties, units and departments regularly to measure achievement against the performance indicators.
  • Maintain and administer the M&E database; analyze and aggregate findings.
  • Support project progress reporting, mid-term and review and final evaluation.
  • Identify areas where support to project partners is and recommend.

Support & Advocacy

  • Coordinate campaigns that challenge harmful stereotypes and normalize gender equity.
  • Advise and support efforts and initiatives aimed at promoting awareness and advocacy on gender equality, diversity and inclusivity.
  • Advise faculties, units and departments on discrimination and human rights violations related to gender equality, diversity and inclusivity.
  • Advise faculties, units and departments in managing sensitive, offensive and confidential matters on gender equality, diversity and inclusivity to ensure an inclusive institutional environment that is fair, transparent, responsive in line with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Highlight gender equality, diversity and Inclusivity issues and recommend effective solutions which incorporate good practice and support operational priorities.
  • Analyze gender equality, diversity and inclusivity risks and impacts and propose a future action plan implementation.
  • Coordinate and support advocacy programmes that promote tolerance of linguistic, cultural and religious diversity.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong inter-departmental/faculty relationships to enhance the multi-disciplinary approach to gender transformation.
  • Create, build and sustain effective external partnerships to enhance gender equality, diversity and inclusivity to broaden networks
  • Information and knowledge sharing with faculties, units and departments on gender equality, diversity and inclusivity to enable the attainment and sustainability of gender transformation.
  • Represent the Centre in external engagement and speak in public events on gender issues.

Staff Management

  • Ensure that staff have job descriptions.
  • Ensure that performance contracts are in place and regular feedback is provided.
  • Ensure that staff are adequately resourced to perform their designated tasks and responsibilities.
  • Inculcate fair, conducive and productive working conditions that embrace health and safety and employment equity in the workplace
