Are you an experienced Stores, Warehouse or Materials Handler looking for an opportunity where accuracy, reliability and safety are valued?
We are seeking a Stores & Materials Handler to join a Stores team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate preparation, movement and control of raw materials and finished products between the Stores and Production departments, while also supporting customer deliveries and Finished Goods Store operations. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is physically strong (lifting heavy materials), safety conscious and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Material Handling
- Weigh and issue raw materials, ready-to-press materials and hard scrap to designated production processes.
- Operate a forklift to retrieve materials from warehouse racking and deliver them to production.
- Collect completed materials from production and return them to the warehouse.
- Place materials into designated racking locations and accurately capture stock movements on the stores system.
- Ensure materials are correctly identified, handled and stored.
Scrap Material Management
- Receive and inspect incoming hard scrap deliveries.
- Sort and inspect hard scrap to ensure only approved tungsten material is accepted.
- Identify and separate foreign metals, including steel and other contaminants.
- Store scrap materials safely in the correct designated locations.
Customer Deliveries
- Carry out urgent customer deliveries using the company vehicle.
- Deliver sales orders to local customers as required.
Finished Goods Store Support
When material-handling duties are complete, provide support to the Finished Goods Store by:
- Picking customer orders.
- Receiving and checking stock.
- Booking stock into the system.
- Performing general warehouse and stores duties.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain accurate stock records and process stock transactions on the computer system.
- Follow all company safety procedures, policies and warehouse operating procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Ensure all materials are handled and stored correctly.
- Work accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision.
Desired Experience & Qualification
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Experience
- Previous experience in a warehouse, stores or materials-handling environment is essential .
- Experience within a manufacturing, engineering or production environment will be advantageous.
Knowledge & Skills
- Basic mathematical ability for accurately weighing, measuring and counting stock.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Ability to accurately capture stock movements and transactions.
- Ability to follow written procedures and work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Licences
- Valid South African driver's licence – Essential.
- Valid forklift licence – Preferred
Physical Requirements
- Physically fit / strong and able to safely lift and handle heavy loads and raw materials.
- Comfortable standing and walking for extended periods.
- Able to operate a forklift safely and efficiently.
- Able to work in a hands-on warehouse and production environment.
