Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting To: Management / Operations Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for an experienced and organised Storeman / Stores Controller to take responsibility for the day-to-day running and control of the company stores.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, reliable and comfortable taking ownership of the stores function while identifying opportunities to improve stock control, accuracy and efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Stores & Stock Control

  • Take full responsibility for the day-to-day running and organisation of the stores.
  • Receive, check and correctly record incoming stock and materials.
  • Issue stock accurately against authorised requests/orders.
  • Ensure stock is correctly labelled, stored and easily accessible.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and ensure all stock movements are captured.
  • Monitor stock levels and identify discrepancies or variances.
  • Investigate and report stock losses, damages and discrepancies.

Stocktaking & Inventory Management

  • Conduct regular stock counts and full stock takes.
  • Reconcile physical stock against system records.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Monitor stock movement and identify slow-moving, obsolete or excess stock.
  • Implement appropriate stock rotation procedures.
  • Ensure minimum and maximum stock levels are maintained.

Stock Planning & Re-ordering

  • Monitor stock levels and anticipate future requirements.
  • Identify when stock needs to be reordered.
  • Assist with purchasing and ordering of stock.
  • Work with management and suppliers to ensure stock availability.
  • Prevent unnecessary overstocking while reducing the risk of stock-outs.
  • Assist with maintaining appropriate reorder levels.

Ordering & Systems

  • Capture and process stock movements using the company's ordering/inventory system.
  • Generate and maintain purchase orders where required.
  • Check orders against delivery notes and supplier documentation.
  • Ensure system quantities accurately reflect physical stock.
  • Produce stock reports for management when required.

General Stores Administration

  • Maintain accurate filing and documentation relating to stock.
  • Ensure the stores area remains clean, organised and compliant with company procedures.
  • Assist with loading and off-loading where required.
  • Ensure all company stock is properly secured.
  • Follow all relevant health and safety procedures.
  • Work closely with purchasing, operations, production and management.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Matric / Grade 12 essential.
  • 3–5+ years' experience in stores, stock control, warehouse or inventory management.
  • Proven experience running or taking responsibility for a stores function.
  • Strong stocktaking and reconciliation experience.
  • Experience with stock planning and re-ordering.
  • Experience working with ordering, inventory or ERP systems.
  • Good computer literacy, particularly MS Excel.
  • Strong numerical and administrative ability.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership.
  • Valid driver's licence would be advantageous.
  • Forklift licence would be advantageous.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will be someone who can step into the stores function and make an immediate difference .

We are particularly interested in someone who can

  • Run the stores independently.
  • Improve stock accuracy and organisation.
  • Identify and prevent stock shortages.
  • Ensure re-ordering takes place before stock reaches critical levels.
  • Conduct accurate and regular stock takes.
  • Identify discrepancies and investigate the reasons behind them.
  • Work confidently with an ordering/inventory system.
  • Provide management with accurate information on stock levels and requirements.
  • Bring structure and accountability to the stores function.

  • Improved visibility of stock levels and requirements.

SALARY

R20,000 per month , dependent on experience and overall suitability.
