About the Opportunity
An established international organisation operating within a specialised technical and manufacturing environment is looking for a reliable, organised and hands-on Storeman to join its Operations team based in Northriding, Johannesburg.
This is a practical operational position responsible for the accurate receiving, inspection, storage, picking, packing, issuing and dispatching of materials and finished goods .
The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring that production, sales and service requirements are supported accurately and on time.
The position also includes authorised local collections and deliveries around Johannesburg , so a valid South African driver's licence and responsible driving record are important requirements.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in running an accurate, clean, organised and safe stores environment and understands the importance of stock traceability, correct documentation and disciplined stock handling.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Receiving & Incoming Stock
- Receive incoming deliveries safely and accurately.
- Check goods against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
- Count and inspect incoming stock for correct item, quantity and condition.
- Check stock identification and relevant supporting documentation where required.
- Identify and report shortages, overages, damaged stock or suspected non-conforming goods.
- Ensure damaged or non-conforming goods are correctly separated and moved to the appropriate quarantine area.
- Ensure delivery documentation is completed accurately and submitted for system processing.
- Move accepted goods promptly to the correct receiving or storage locations.
Picking, Packing & Production Support
- Accurately pick and pack materials against authorised production and sales orders.
- Prepare picking bins and kits for Production.
- Ensure materials are clearly identified against the relevant project or production order.
- Verify item codes, descriptions, quantities and condition before goods are issued.
- Check batch or serial numbers and project allocation where applicable.
- Ensure the required handover and sign-off procedures are followed.
- Process physical returns from Production and other departments according to the required documentation and procedures.
- Support urgent production requirements and material shortages when required.
Stock Control & Stores Management
- Place stock in the correct shelving and bin locations.
- Maintain accurate and clearly identified storage locations.
- Ensure shelving and storage areas remain orderly and well organised.
- Protect materials against damage, contamination, deterioration and unauthorised access.
- Maintain appropriate FIFO/FEFO stock rotation .
- Monitor consumable stock levels and assist with Kanban replenishment .
- Identify and report abnormal usage, shortages and empty bins.
- Assist with cycle counts, stock takes, recounts and stock-location verification.
- Identify and report obsolete, expired, slow-moving or damaged stock.
- Maintain good stock traceability and disciplined stock-handling procedures.
Dispatch
- Pack finished goods, spares and sales orders appropriately to prevent damage during transport.
- Verify quantities and supporting documentation before consignments are released.
- Complete the required sign-out records for outgoing goods.
- Assist with loading, securing and handing over goods to authorised customers, couriers and transport providers.
- Retain the appropriate proof of collection or delivery.
- Immediately report damaged, incomplete, incorrectly packed or unauthorised dispatches.
Collections & Deliveries
The position includes authorised local driving duties as required.
Responsibilities will include
- Completing local collections and deliveries around Johannesburg.
- Ensuring all collection and delivery documentation is completed correctly.
- Conducting required pre-use vehicle checks.
- Reporting vehicle defects, incidents, fines or licence restrictions immediately.
- Planning routes efficiently.
- Ensuring loads are appropriately secured.
- Driving responsibly and taking proper care of company vehicles and goods being transported.
Equipment & Material Handling
- Safely use pallet jacks, trolleys, lifting aids and other authorised material-handling equipment.
- Operate a forklift only when appropriately trained, licensed and authorised.
- Complete required equipment checks before use.
- Ensure stock is moved, stacked and stored safely.
- Follow correct manual-handling procedures and use mechanical assistance or team lifting where required.
Housekeeping & Safety
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe stores and warehouse environment.
- Keep receiving, quarantine, storage, picking, packing and dispatch areas orderly.
- Ensure aisles, exits and access to fire and safety equipment remain clear.
- Maintain safe stacking practices.
- Assist with waste segregation and packaging disposal.
- Support routine stores inspections.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions or practices.
- Stop and seek clarification where an instruction, load or activity appears unsafe or incorrect.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum Requirements
The successful candidate should ideally have
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent .
- At least 2 years' experience within a stores, warehouse, dispatch or manufacturing-materials environment.
- Previous experience with receiving, picking, packing, stock handling and dispatch.
- Ability to accurately read and work from:
- Item codes
- Picking documents
- Purchase orders
- Delivery notes
- Stock documentation
- Ability to maintain accurate manual and/or electronic records.
- A valid South African driver's licence suitable for local collections and deliveries.
- A forklift licence would be advantageous.
- Candidates without a forklift licence should be willing and able to undergo the necessary training should forklift operation form part of their responsibilities.
- Physical ability to safely perform routine warehouse and material-handling duties.

Package & Remuneration
Package
R17,500 – R19,200 CTC per month
( R210,000 – R230,000 CTC per annum )
The final package offered will be dependent on the successful candidate's relevant experience and suitability for the position.
