Our Client needs a creative, analytical, and commercially minded Store Layout Designer to join their Team. This role is central to shaping the shopping experience across the Group’s stores, ensuring layouts are both functional and inspiring, while driving productivity and profitability.
Role reports to the Head of Space Management and Customer Insights Hub
Duties & Responsibilities
- Space optimisation: Design and refine layouts that maximise retail space, sales, and customer satisfaction
- Spatial planning: Balance shopper psychology with category strategies, ensuring efficient flows and adjacencies across high-traffic areas, product zones, and checkout points
- Brand representation: Create layouts that reflect the Group’s brand identity, delivering a cohesive and engaging shopping environment
- Collaboration: Partner with floor planning managers, architects, designers, and cross-functional teams to align store designs with corporate goals
- Project execution: Oversee implementation, coordinating contractors and vendors to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards
- Performance benchmarking: Use trading density, stock density, GMROI, and GP/SQM benchmarks to guide design decisions and improve category performance
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Matric plus a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in store design, retail merchandising, or a related discipline
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar floor planning software
- Strong knowledge of retail products, fixtures, and merchandising principles
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to plan, organise, and deliver projects under time and budget constraints
- Strong data analysis skills (Excel, retail management systems) to support evidence-based design decisions
- Effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and internal teams
- Strategic thinker with problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and adaptability in a fast-paced retail environment
