Introduction

Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Spray Painter to join its manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing surfaces and applying industrial coatings and paint finishes to electrical and mechanical equipment, components and manufactured products.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in an industrial, engineering, manufacturing or heavy equipment environment, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality, safety and production standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

Prepare components and equipment for painting by cleaning, degreasing, sanding, masking and removing contaminants from surfaces.

· Inspect surfaces before painting and identify imperfections, corrosion, damage or areas requiring additional preparation.

· Apply industrial paint and coating systems using spray-painting equipment and appropriate application techniques.

· Ensure the correct paint type, colour, coating thickness and application method are used according to specifications.

· Mix and prepare paints, thinners, primers and other coating materials according to manufacturer and workplace requirements.

· Set up, operate and maintain spray guns, compressors, pumps and other painting equipment.

· Apply primers, undercoats and finishing coats to achieve the required quality and appearance.

· Ensure painted components meet required quality, finish, coverage and thickness standards.

· Perform touch-ups, repairs and corrective painting where required.

· Inspect completed work and identify defects such as runs, sags, uneven coverage, overspray, bubbling or poor adhesion.

· Maintain clean and organised painting areas, equipment and tools.

· Clean and maintain spray-painting equipment after use to ensure reliable operation and prevent contamination.

· Follow correct procedures for the storage, handling and disposal of paints, solvents and other coating materials.

· Work according to established production schedules while maintaining required quality standards.

· Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with occupational health and safety requirements and environmental procedures.

· Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection where required.

· Work closely with production, quality control and other manufacturing teams to ensure painting activities do not negatively impact production schedules.

· Report equipment faults, paint defects, material shortages or quality concerns to the relevant supervisor.

· Maintain accurate records relating to materials, production activities and completed work where required.

· Assist with general activities within the paint shop and manufacturing environment as required.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent.

· Relevant Spray Painting qualification or trade-related training will be advantageous.

· Previous experience as a Spray Painter / Industrial Spray Painter.

· Experience working with industrial paints, primers and coating systems.

· Practical experience operating spray-painting equipment.

· Knowledge of surface preparation and industrial painting techniques.

· Ability to read and understand basic work instructions, drawings or specifications.

· Good understanding of workplace health and safety procedures.

· Good attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent quality.

· Ability to work independently as well as part of a production team.

· Physically fit and able to work in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
