Introduction

Our client, an established supplier of industrial machinery and technical solutions, is seeking an experienced Spare Parts Sales Department Manager to lead its spare parts and aftersales operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for departmental performance, sales growth, inventory management, customer service, financial control and the development of a high-performing team.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Spare Parts Sales Department.
  • Manage, mentor and develop spare parts sales coordinators, administrative staff and logistics personnel.
  • Establish departmental objectives, performance standards and key performance indicators.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely preparation of quotations, purchase orders, supplier orders and invoices.
  • Monitor quotation turnaround times, conversion rates, ageing reports and lost sales opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve spare parts sales, customer retention and departmental profitability.
  • Prepare and manage the departmental budget, revenue targets, gross margins and operating expenses.
  • Review and approve high-value quotations, purchase orders and commercial pricing decisions.
  • Ensure landed costs, freight charges, import duties, supplier pricing and exchange rates are accurately calculated.
  • Develop and maintain an effective spare parts inventory and stock replenishment strategy.
  • Monitor inventory levels, stock turnover, obsolete stock and the availability of critical and fast-moving parts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, international suppliers and logistics partners.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for customer complaints, delivery concerns and supplier-related issues.
  • Collaborate with the Service Department and Key Account Managers to support maintenance, installations, shutdowns and breakdown requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve departmental systems, reporting, automation, operational efficiency and customer service.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of eight years’ experience within a technical spare parts, aftersales, industrial equipment or capital machinery environment.
  • At least five years’ experience managing a department or multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven experience in spare parts sales, quotation management and customer relationship management.
  • Strong financial management, budgeting, pricing and gross margin experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in inventory management, stock forecasting and stock optimisation.
  • Experience working with international suppliers, import logistics, landed costing and foreign exchange.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using an ERP system such as SAP or an equivalent platform.
  • Strong commercial negotiation, analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience within packaging machinery, industrial manufacturing or capital equipment would be highly advantageous.

Package & Remuneration

Our client offers a market-related salary of R65 000 to R75 000 per month , depending on qualifications and experience, together with medical aid and provident fund benefits .
