Our client, a leading national grocery retailer, is looking for an experienced Space Planning Manager to lead and develop their Space Planning function.
This is a strategic and commercially focused role responsible for maximising space productivity, improving category and store performance, and ensuring that space planning strategies are aligned with shopper behaviour, category strategy and overall business objectives.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead, guide and develop the Space Planning team to deliver accurate and effective space plans.
- Manage the planogram refresh schedule and ensure outputs are aligned with business objectives.
- Develop and implement space planning methods, processes and systems to improve space utilisation and productivity.
- Review macro, midi and micro-space, including layouts, adjacencies, flows and product placement.
- Analyse key financial and space productivity measures including GP/sqm, GMROI, GMROM, GMROSS, trading density and stock density .
- Use dashboards, reporting and data analysis to support informed commercial and operational decision-making.
- Research market and category trends and align space planning with category strategy and shopper insights.
- Drive optimisation of space, inventory and supply chain levers, including product availability, OOS reduction and wastage.
- Work closely with Buyers, Planners, Category Managers, Store Development, Store Operations, Distribution Centres and Logistics.
- Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships, including suppliers and supplier space planning/category management teams.
- Lead cross-functional optimisation projects and standardise tools and processes.
- Develop the team’s ability to use data and insights to make informed decisions.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Marketing Degree .
- 5+ years’ experience in a senior management role .
- Strong experience within Space Planning, Category Management, Retail or a related commercial environment .
- Strong analytical and commercial ability.
- Experience working with space planning, reporting and data analysis tools.
- Strong leadership and people-management experience.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to manage execution, results, compliance and continuous improvement.
- Strong customer/shopper focus with the ability to translate data and insights into commercial decisions.
