Role Summary - a Sonographer performs diagnostic procedures using sonographic equipment. Duties include preparing patients and explaining the procedure to the patient, and performing the procedure and post procedure duties.
Key work outputs and Accountabilities
Manage and operate then daily operations and supervision of the radiology ultrasound departments.
Explain ultrasound procedure to patients, record relevant medical history and record and collect required data.
Bookings for Radiography procedures, etc.
Picking up/receiving job cards for radiological duties.
Radiological Duties
An ultra sound scan of the patient, report findings to radiologist, etc
Assisting Radiologists with procedures as required.
Receiving patients from reception.
Perform various technical procedures requiring independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative.
A professional demeanour whilst performing all exams, general and vascular.
Work with other Technologists and Radiologists to perform procedures with quality images.
Assisting patients from reception to change rooms and various scanning/X-raying rooms and back again.
Positioning of patients for procedures to be done.
Quality assurance of procedures to be done.
Contributing to efficient running of department, keeping it clean and organised.
Routine daily equipment checks.
If there are technical problems to report them to the department head.
Adminstrative duties as required - answering telephones, making bookings, following up on reports, printing and labelling X-ray results and scans etc.
Capture optimal images to complete detailed written reports for Radiologists to interpret.
Other adhoc duties as reasonable expected by Chief Radiologist and the Practice
Desired Experience & Qualification
National Dipoma in Diagnostic Radiography
HPCSA Registration
Excellent patient care and passion for ultrasound
Work experience
Previous experience in Sonography is essential - at least 1 year's experience as a sonographer. But we are requiring quite a few Sonagraphers at various salaries.
Capacity to implement and maintain health practice standards required by acredited bodies and appropriate health legislation.
Knowledge - ability to set high performance standards for self and others and assume the overall responsibility and accountablity for the successful completion of assignments and tasks.
