Role Overview

The Somatologist is responsible for providing professional skin, body, beauty, and wellness treatments to clients in a safe, hygienic, and client-focused environment. The role includes conducting consultations, performing treatments, recommending suitable products and aftercare, maintaining accurate client records, and supporting the overall service standards of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct professional client consultations, including skin, body, and lifestyle assessments.

• Perform a range of approved treatments, including facials, massage, body treatments, manicures, pedicures, waxing, tinting, and other beauty or wellness services within scope of practice.

• Provide advanced treatments where qualified, such as chemical peels, microneedling, electrotherapy, laser or IPL support, and body contouring treatments.

• Prepare, clean, and reset treatment rooms before and after each client.

• Maintain strict hygiene, infection control, health, and safety standards.

• Recommend appropriate homecare routines, skincare products, and aftercare guidance to clients.

• Maintain accurate client records, treatment notes, consent forms, and progress updates.

• Support retail sales by promoting suitable products ethically and professionally.

• Manage appointments, follow-ups, and client queries where required.

• Monitor stock levels, report shortages, and assist with product and equipment care.

• Build strong client relationships and contribute to client retention and satisfaction.

• Work collaboratively with therapists, medical aesthetic professionals, reception staff, and management.

Minimum Requirements

• Recognised certification / qualification in Somatology, Beauty Therapy, Aesthetic Science, or a related field.

• 2 years and more relevant practical training and experience in a spa, salon, wellness centre, aesthetic clinic, or similar environment.

• Knowledge of skin analysis, facial treatments, body treatments, massage techniques, product use, and treatment planning.

• Understanding of hygiene standards, infection control, consent procedures, and safe equipment use.

• Ability to maintain professional client records and confidentiality.

• Experience with retail product recommendations and client aftercare advice.

• Computer literacy and basic booking or point-of-sale system experience will be advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Somatology.

• CIDESCO, ITEC, SAAHSP, or similar recognised certification.

• Advanced training in medical aesthetics, skincare technologies, peels, microneedling, laser, IPL, or body contouring will be advantageous.

• First aid training will be advantageous.
