Solar Sales Engineer

A leading renewable energy company is looking for an experienced Solar Sales Engineer with strong experience in solar PV design, technical sales, business development, and client relationship management to join their team in Pretoria. The successful candidate will bridge technical expertise and commercial sales, identifying new business opportunities across residential and commercial markets, conducting technical site assessments, designing solar solutions, preparing proposals, and closing sales. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing renewable energy business in a technical and commercially driven role. Responsibilities:

• Identify and develop new business opportunities across residential and commercial market segments. • Generate and qualify leads through proactive prospecting, networking, and client referrals. • Conduct client meetings, site visits, roof inspections, energy usage analyses, and shading assessments. • Assess the technical and commercial feasibility of solar PV projects. • Design and specify photovoltaic systems for residential and commercial applications. • Prepare tailored technical and commercial proposals, including system layouts, performance estimates, financial analyses, yield modelling, and ROI calculations. • Prepare, present, and follow up on quotations in coordination with operations and engineering teams. • Negotiate pricing and commercial terms and drive the timely closure of sales. • Manage and maintain an accurate sales pipeline using CRM software. • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships to encourage repeat business and referrals. • Support permitting and interconnection applications with relevant authorities and utility companies. • Stay informed about renewable energy industry trends, local regulations, and emerging solar technologies. • Ensure smooth handover of secured projects to project management, operations, and installation teams. • Collaborate with internal teams throughout project execution to ensure customer satisfaction. • Address technical queries and provide ongoing support to clients throughout the sales process. • Achieve agreed monthly and quarterly sales revenue targets. • Maintain strong lead conversion rates, quotation turnaround times, CRM hygiene, and accurate sales forecasting. Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical field. • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in solar energy design, sales engineering, or a related technical sales role within the renewable energy sector. • Strong understanding of photovoltaic system components, design principles, and installation practices. • Proficiency in PV design software such as PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar. • Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, or other drafting software is advantageous. • Valid driver's licence. • Willingness to travel for client meetings and technical site assessments. • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of the financial aspects of solar projects. • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. • Strong sales, business development, and client relationship management abilities. • Self-driven, target-oriented, and able to take ownership of the sales pipeline. • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills. • Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, project management, operations, and installation teams. • Knowledge of the South African renewable energy sector is advantageous. • Knowledge of local permitting and interconnection requirements is advantageous. • NABCEP certification or equivalent is advantageous. • Hands-on experience with CRM software is advantageous. • Afrikaans proficiency is advantageous.
