Software Developer II - 12 month contract

Introduction

Job Purpose

To realise the detailed design through programming and configuration, and provide guidance and mentoring to other software developers.

Key Responsibilities

Produce working, quality software that meets the design

Develop critical and complex technical components within area of accountability

Deliver system component designs that are robust, fault-tolerant, supportable, maintainable, re-usable, observable and scalable

Conduct estimates of work effort

Troubleshoot and resolve software issues; guide other team members

Develop unit and system test cases; conduct unit and system testing

Create deployment artefacts and manage them in source control; manage deployment packages and their execution

Produce documentation per organisational standards; update and control the asset knowledge base

Optimise tool chain in collaboration with the Biz/Dev/Ops Engineer

Collaborate with designers, product owners and engineering leads to refine solutions

Contribute to decomposing the system solution into component parts for development

Ensure integration of own work with the wider team

Provide mentoring to multiple software developers

Drive continuous improvement of software and business processes through agile thinking

Maintain and support software in environments of accountability

Stay current in field of expertise; support personal growth and performance

Support company culture, business strategy and corporate responsibility initiatives

Minimum Experience

5+ years business process analysis, with hands-on IBM BPM/BAW or Camunda (modelling, automation, orchestration, deployment, monitoring)

5+ years software development with Java/Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices

Hands-on Camunda 7/8 or IBM BPM/BAW delivery: BPMN/DMN modelling, external task workers, incident handling, deployment/operate

Proven experience modelling and deploying workflows (IBM BPM/BAW or Camunda Modeler) integrated with custom UIs

Practical experience with event streaming (Kafka/Confluent)

2+ years analysing processes to identify automation opportunities

Technical / Professional Knowledge

IBM BPM/BAW; Camunda 7/8, Camunda Modeler, BPMN 2.0

Kafka/Confluent (publishing/consuming events)

Java 11+, Spring Boot, REST API, JSON

Git, CI/CD (Azure DevOps pipelines)

Solution design ability

Functional and performance testing experience

AI-enabled workflow optimisation

Data-driven decision automation

Banking domain knowledge

Qualifications

Essential: Diploma in Computer Science / Information Systems / Software Engineering (NQF Level)

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Information Systems / Software Engineering

Essential Certifications

Camunda Certified Modeler / Developer

Kafka/Confluent Practitioner Certification

Azure AZ-900 / AZ-104 / AZ-204
