Software Developer

Introduction

The Senior Software Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing and maintaining complex custom software solutions using the Microsoft Development Stack. The successful candidate will work across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and solution design through to development, testing, deployment and ongoing maintenance.

This role requires an experienced Full-stack Developer who can work independently, take ownership of complex development deliverables and provide technical guidance to less experienced developers. The Senior Software Developer will collaborate closely with the IT team, business analysts and relevant stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable and high-quality solutions aligned with the organisation’s operational requirements and technical standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

Software Development

• Design, develop and maintain custom software applications using the Microsoft Development Stack

• Develop solutions using technologies such as C#, T-SQL, ASP.NET, JavaScript, CSS and other relevant tools

• Use appropriate front-end and back-end frameworks, including Angular and Node.js, to build responsive web applications, database-driven applications, mobile solutions and websites

• Write clean, efficient, maintainable and secure code in accordance with established coding standards and industry best practices

• Enhance and modernise existing applications to improve functionality, maintainability, security and performance

Full-stack Development

• Work across all layers of the development stack, including database design, server-side logic, application integrations and front-end implementation

• Design and optimise database structures, queries and application components

• Ensure that software components are properly integrated and operate as part of a cohesive solution

• Consider application performance, scalability, maintainability and security throughout the development process

• Identify and address technical limitations, dependencies and integration risks

Requirements Analysis and Solution Design

• Engage with business analysts, IT team members and relevant stakeholders to understand business and system requirements

• Translate business needs and problem statements into clear technical specifications and development approaches

• Assess technical feasibility and recommend appropriate solutions

• Identify gaps, risks or ambiguities in requirements and contribute towards resolving them before development begins

• Produce or maintain relevant technical documentation, including solution designs, development specifications and system information

Technical Owner and Delivery

• Take ownership of assigned development projects or significant components of larger initiatives

• Plan and prioritise development activities to support agreed delivery timelines

• Manage development tasks independently while maintaining visibility of progress, risks and dependencies

• Provide realistic technical input into development planning and delivery decisions

• Ensure that completed solutions meet the agreed functional, technical, quality and security requirements

• Support deployments, implementation activities and post-release monitoring where required

Technical Guidance and Mentorship

• Provide guidance and support to junior developers on coding practices, problem-solving and technical implementation

• Review code and provide clear, constructive feedback

• Promote consistent development standards and secure coding practices across the team

• Assist junior developers with troubleshooting complex issues and strengthening their technical understanding

• Encourage knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the development team

Desired Experience & Qualification

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience in software development

• Strong experience developing solutions using the Microsoft Development Stack

• Advanced proficiency in C#, T-SQL, ASP.NET, JavaScript, CSS and other relevant development technologies

• Experience with front-end frameworks such as Angular and back-end technologies such as Node.js

• Demonstrated full-stack development experience across database, back-end and front-end layers

• Experience analysing complex requirements and translating them into effective technical solutions

• Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of development projects or significant project components

• Experience providing technical guidance, support or mentorship to junior developers

• Strong experience with software testing, debugging, maintenance and secure coding practices
