REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification in Social Work that allows for registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals SACSSP as a Social Worker. Registration with a professional council: Registration with a Professional Council for Social Service Professions SACSSP as a Social Worker.
  • Experience: A minimum of 7 years appropriate experience in social worker after registration as Social Worker with SACSSP.
  • Competencies knowledge/skills: Sound knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Care Act, Children's Act and Domestic Violence Act. Knowledge of hospital-based social work services and integrated health and social development services delivery. Proven supervisory, leadership and people management skills. Ability to manage statutory process, governance, reporting and compliance. Excellent communication, report writing, problem solving and decision-making skills. Computer literate MS Office, data and Information Management Systems.

DUTIES

  • Provide operational and professional leadership in the management of Social Work services across all inpatients, outpatient and specialized service areas within a large Metro District Hospital, including the Acute Psychiatric Unit. Manage the social work department and provide clinical and administrative supervision to social workers and students in accordance with SACSSP, OSD and WCDOH prescripts. Ensure effective delivery of statutory, psychosocial and mental social work services through quality assurance, case review and ethical oversight.
  • Coordinate social work input into multi-disciplinary patient care, discharge planning and referral pathways to promote continuity of care and reduce avoidable delays. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, protocols and governance requirements, including accurate record keeping and reporting. Manage service statistics, compile reports and participate in audits, quality improvements initiatives and clinical governance processes. Facilitate in-service training, capacity development and professional development of staff and students.
