Role Outline
- Strategic role responsible for developing and improving existing operations
- Uses a Site Development Plan SDP to manage and implement strategic DSC Operations Excellence initiatives and programs
- Develops and grows the performance of existing operations
- Works hand-in-hand with Site Management and Operational Teams
- Creates and implements an SDP to: Stabilize, develop, and grow site performance in a standard and sustainable way while supporting Operations Excellence Functional Leads through the application and implementation of standard DSC Operations Excellence Programs and Tools
Key Accountabilities
- Support the creation of a Site Development Plan to consolidate all actions agreed between Site Management, General Management, BU Director, and Operations Excellence Lead
- Ensure the Site Development Plan is aligned with DSC strategic initiatives and programs, with a focus on maximizing site performance, customer centricity, and continuous improvement
- Implement a regular review meeting structure TDM with Site Management Teams to ensure strong control over content and deadlines
- Facilitate workshops and meetings within the area of responsibility to support actions listed in the Site Development Plan
- Identify best practices across the organization and collaborate with CI and Logistics Engineering teams to develop and incubate new solutions before deployment to sites
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders suppliers, regional and cluster functional teams, etc. in support of the Site Development Plan
- Support sites classified as low performing by driving improvement and turnaround plans through the Site Development Plan
- Ensure BASICS / The DHL Way is in place and that identified gaps are managed through the Site Development Plan
- Escalate risks and issues to Operations Excellence and Business Unit Leads
- Support renewals and new business offerings within the area of responsibility
- Support and manage projects across the business
- Support the Site Management Team with DSC strategic Operations Excellence initiatives and programs through the Site Development Plan
OMS FC elements /SmartRem applications
- OMS FC Elements: Support implementations and enforce TDM review meetings to analyse data, ensuring implementations are sustained and deliver the expected benefits
- Equipment Resource Planning: Manage Material Handling Equipment MHE, scanners, printers, and other operational equipment to improve utilization, reduce equipment requirements where appropriate, and recommend alternative equipment and ways of working e.g., use of different MHE types, equipment sharing, and accelerated digitalization initiatives
- Resource Planning: Improve forecasting and planning processes to balance workloads and introduce a structured approach for obtaining forecast volumes, either directly from customers or through better utilization of the SmartPlan tool
- Review the utilization and functionality of WMS and/or TMS and recommend configuration changes to eliminate waste and increase productivity
Continuous Improvement & Site Profitability
- Lead continuous improvement discussions across all sites OMS FC and non-OMS FC to ensure the achievement of savings and operational efficiencies
- Review contract conditions, including service levels, liabilities, scope of work, pricing, and indexation, to identify improvement opportunities and performance gaps
- Define joint account plans and/or continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enabling customers to manage overall costs without eroding the DSC margin
- Define joint account plans and/or continuous improvement initiatives to improve coordination and cooperation between warehouse and transport operations
- Monitor operational performance and highlight potential improvement areas to the Operations Management Team, including: Idle space and/or lease costs; reduced space utilization for staging, checking, storage, inventory accuracy, and stock loss claims and opportunities to reduce inventory counts and stock control efforts
- Conduct in-depth analyses and customer-specific activities performed without remuneration out-of-scope activities and agree required tariff changes and customer engagement actions with Site Teams
Customers
- Support the Site Management team in developing a robust business case for renewals by using the Site Development Plan to review, improve, and maintain all aspects of the business, including customers, growth, staff, organisational structure, real estate, and I
- Support renewal and new business opportunities within the area of responsibility
- Participate in customer meetings to promote the DSC continuous improvement agenda and strategy, and to communicate progress against plans and objectives
Implementations / Audits
- Provide operational support to the Project Delivery team during new start-ups or changed renewals through the use of the Startup Improvement Program SIP and Opportunity to Develop O2D guidelines
- Provide operational support to the Project Delivery team during site changes, including racking changes, system changes, and related initiatives
- Provide operational support to the Site Management Team during internal and external audit preparations and audits, with a focus on eliminating repetitive audit findings
- Conduct back-checks to determine variances in business volumes and/or business characteristics between the agreed commercial setup and the actual operating environment, including deep-dive analyses by process step and/or tariff line
- Ensure the site team possesses sufficient knowledge and capability to support Business Development BD staff during tender processes
Health & Safety/Quality/Environmental/Facility/Security and BCM functions:
- Implement checks to ensure site operations maintain the required certifications, whether mandated by legislation, clients, or corporate requirements
- Implement a TDM with the Site Management Team to ensure strong control over GEMBA Walks and process confirmations related to H&S, Environment, Security, BCM, Quality, and Facility Management processes aligned to ISO toolkits
- Verify that site teams list all deviations in the SDP, update work instructions accordingly, and conduct training on revised procedures
- Ensure Facility Management areas understand supplier SLAs, lease agreements, and preventative maintenance plans
- Support site decarbonisation plans to reduce energy costs, achieve ISO certification, and progress toward carbon neutrality
- Analyse outsourced costs related to required standards, including security, cleaning, pest control, waste management, and related services
- Identify cost reduction and optimization opportunities, supported by GBS Procurement
Data Usage and Quality
- Support the Site Management Team by reviewing control reports and dashboards to identify inefficiencies and gaps in processes, enabling data-driven decision-making
- Ensure the availability of control reports to monitor and validate data quality across various systems, including Logics, EtQ, and SmartRem
Pre series Model Year
- Develop and manage launch timelines, milestones, and logistics readiness
- Ensure all materials and components are available before production starts
- Check the health of logistics processes to ensure model run-in readiness
- Identify and mitigate launch risks affecting supply chain performance
- Monitor inventory levels and implement contingency plans where necessary
- Lead launch meetings and provide regular progress reports
- Support engineering changes and production ramp-up activities
Education/Certifications
- Matric / Grade 12
- Postgraduate qualification in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
Experience
• 3-5 years' experience at management level •
