Shop Assistant / Cashier

Introduction

SA Baking Supplies, a growing supplier of baking ingredients, baking equipment and related products, is opening a brand-new branch in Witbank (Emalahleni), Mpumalanga . We are looking for a friendly, reliable and energetic Shop Assistant / Cashier to join the team.

This is a customer-facing opportunity suited to someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in providing excellent service and is willing to assist across various areas of the store.

About the Role

You will be an important part of the customer experience, assisting customers with their purchases, processing transactions and supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the store.

You will also assist with stock, merchandising and maintaining a clean and welcoming store environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome customers and provide friendly, professional service.

• Assist customers with product queries and purchases.

• Process sales accurately using the point-of-sale system.

• Handle cash, card and other payment methods.

• Complete daily cash-ups and maintain accurate cash handling.

• Assist with receiving, unpacking and checking stock.

• Replenish shelves and maintain neat product displays.

• Assist with stock counts and stock control.

• Ensure products are correctly priced and labelled.

• Keep the store clean, neat and well organised.

• Assist customers with packing and loading purchases where required.

• Handle customer queries and escalate complex matters to the Store Manager.

• Support the team with the daily running of the store.

• Follow company procedures relating to cash, stock and customer service.

Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric.

• Previous retail, cashier or customer service experience will be advantageous.

• Previous cash-handling experience preferred.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

• Basic computer literacy.

• Good numerical and administrative ability.

• Strong attention to detail.

• Friendly and approachable personality.

• Reliable, punctual and hardworking.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

• Comfortable working in a busy retail environment.

• Willingness to work retail hours, including Saturdays and public holidays when required.

Advantageous

• Experience in a bakery, food, hospitality or retail environment.

• Knowledge of or interest in baking and baking products.

• Experience using a POS system.
