SHEQ Superintendent

PURPOSE OF THE JOB To ensure the Business Unit operates in a safe, healthy, environmentally responsible, and quality-focussed manner that is aimed at achieving zero harm. SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY Identify and assess level of issue based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc. Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.) Manage SHEQ compliance within the Section through effective use of the Toolbox Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status PEOPLE Manage the Section: Ensure an enabling climate/culture Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover Labour complement in line with budget Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Section Manage performance against set targets and competencies Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly) Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.) Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels Conduct recruitment interviews CUSTOMERS Ensure Customer Satisfaction through Service Level Agreements Liaise and coordinate with Sites regarding the clarification and understanding of operational performance BUSINESS PROCESSES Identify SHEQ requirements and determine the impact they may have on the site Implement SHEQ requirements to align with Behavioural Expectations Develop, align and implement Policies, Management Standards, Procedures, Protocols, Guidelines and Toolkits at Departmental Level Develop Learning Interventions to support implementation of SHEQ Management System requirements Facilitate external SHEQ Audits, conduct internal SHEQ Audits and monitor and report closure on Audit findings Report on the Performance of Site SHEQ Management Systems Ensure continuous improvement of the SHEQ Management System Manage Significant Incidents and ensure reporting is as per IMS requirements Monitor and audit the Behavioural Monitoring Process at Site level Facilitate the identification and assessment of SHEQ Risks and update the risk register Report SHEQ statistics and information Manage 5s system for site Coordinate, investigate, standardise and optimise PPE requirements, quality and investigations Implement SHEQ Projects that will improve SHEQ performance of the site Clearly communicate KPA’s to subordinates Lead and develop SHEQ Practitioners GROWTH Manage Continuous Improvement through Operational Excellence SHAREHOLDER VALUE Manage the Section costs BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: Safety Leadership Innovation Leadership Planning, Organising & Control Results Orientation Problem Solving & Decision Making Aligning Performance for Success Communication Change Leadership Building Strong Teams Business Acumen WORKPLACE COMPETENCIES: Systems: Microsoft Programs Samancor Chrome Systems (IMS, EBMS, Chromedoc, MES, Coupa, SAP) Job Skills Soft skills as identified per department / level Improving health and safety culture Required as per training matrix Knowledge: Demonstrate an understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Legislation as well as Environmental Legislation Proof of successful implementation and maintenance of a SHEQ Programme SHEQ Systems knowledge Proven incident investigation experience Proven risk management experience
