Zibo Containers, a leading manufacturer of thermoformed plastic packaging, is seeking a motivated and dynamic SHEQ Manager to join our team in Kuils River, Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining the company’s Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) systems, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, industry standards and company requirements, while driving continuous improvement in quality, food safety, health, safety and environmental performance.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage BRCGS Packaging Materials and SEDEX certification requirements.
- Manage laboratory activities and ensure compliance with required standards.
- Ensure consistent product quality and adherence to specifications.
- Investigate and manage customer complaints and non-conformances.
- Maintain effective document control and quality records.
- Verify the implementation and effectiveness of corrective and preventative actions.
- Coordinate and manage internal and external plant audits.
- Complete and maintain supplier questionnaires and related documentation.
- Ensure the facility and products comply with the latest applicable food safety laws, regulations and standards.
- Monitor budgets and identify opportunities for quality cost optimisation.
- Provide practical and effective solutions to quality and food safety challenges.
- Participate in regular meetings with the Production Management Team to drive quality, hygiene and sanitation improvements.
- Assist with setting quality objectives and establishing timelines for improvement projects.
- Coordinate new product trials with Production and NPD and ensure results are properly documented.
- Conduct and coordinate hygiene, housekeeping, GMP, sanitation and safety inspections.
- Plan and coordinate environmental monitoring, calibration and pest control activities.
- Manage the ordering and availability of hygiene consumables and PPE.
- Review and update product specifications as required.
- Maintain professional and timely communication with management, employees, customers and relevant stakeholders.
- Manage external service providers, including laundry, pest control, calibration and waste management.
- Supervise and manage Quality Controllers, Stock Controllers and Cleaners.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Grade 12 / Matric
- National Diploma or Degree in Quality Management, Food Technology, Food Science, Environmental Health, Safety Management or a related field would be advantageous.
- Formal training in HACCP and Internal Auditing
- Training in BRCGS Packaging Materials would be advantageous
- Knowledge of SHEQ management systems, GMP, food safety and quality standards
- Knowledge and experience in BRCGS and SEDEX would be advantageous
- Occupational Health and Safety training or knowledge would be advantageous
- Experience in a manufacturing or packaging environment would be advantageous
