Server Engineer

Key Performance Indicators: Technical job role requirements include: Microsoft Active Directory, Domain Administration - MS Active Directory & Domain Administration , users , groups and permissions management. Server Virtualization - Configuration, operation and administration of the Virtual Server platform, including related Storage (SAN) and Networking. Backup & Recovery, DR – Competent use of technology & practices to ensure business continuity of IT systems , and compliance in terms of audits & risk assessments. Problem Solving, Troubleshooting & Performance Management – able to effectively use IT Infrastructure tools for monitoring , alerting , trouble-shooting and problem-solving to maintain optimal and efficient server & storage performance & availability. Interfacing (Internal and External ) – Good verbal and written communication skills required to contribute on a technical level with internal and external parties. Best-Practice & Standards – Recommend standards & practices in terms of server , storage , database and domain administrative functions for continuous improvement. Cyber Security – All aspects of the role to be carried out compliant to security standards Installations & Configuration, Hardware – install and administer IT infrastructure server and storage hardware. (Rack , stack , cable management etc.) Administrative job role requirements Job card / Ticket Resolution – Able to communicate effectively to manage, prioritise and resolve job cards / tickets for assigned tasks and service requests. Documentation – Create and maintain documentation related to the server & storage environment. This includes knowledge repository / wiki , training material , standards and procedures. Support job role requirements Must provide support to other IT teams (Software & Systems , Network , End-User etc) as well as end-users via job card / ticket resolution , in a competent, respectful and professional manner. After-hours stand-by on a rotational basis within the team is a requirement, Experience: At least 3-6 years relevant experience in server engineer/administration role within IT infrastructure support and administration with hands-on experience on: server virtualization server & storage administration domain & user administration hardware installation & configuration monitoring , alerting & performance management backup & recovery database operations / administration Placement at a particular grade is contingent upon management’s decision as well as additional relevant skills -based and site-specific factors deemed appropriate. Qualification Matric-Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) Required Certifications: Certification in a current Server Virtualization technology (VMware Certified Professional VPC, Microsoft Azure Administrator , Oracle VM , HPE VM Essentials etc.) Certification or equivalent Formal Training Qualification that will validate competence in Microsoft Active Directory and Domain Administration (Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate , Microsoft Certified Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate , MCSE / MCP , or equivalent) Certification or equivalent Formal Training Qualification that will validate competence in Networking (CompTIA Network+ , Cisco CCNA or equivalent) Advantageous & Differentiating Applicant Criteria: Certifications or equivalent Formal Training Qualifications that will indicate competence in IT Infrastructure technologies relevant to a Server Administrators role : Microsoft Certified Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (and other related MS) Certification or equivalent Formal Training Qualification that will indicate competence in Backup & Recovery systems (CommVault Certified Professional CCP , Veeam Certified Engineer VMCE , or equivalent) CompTIA Server+ , CompTIA Linux+ , CompTIA Network+ , CompTIA Security+ , CompTIA A+ VMware Certified Professional VPC IBM i (AS400) Operator / Administrator MS Remote Desktop Services (RDS) platform with Thin Client Terminals IT Degree or Diploma Experience working in a Production / Manufacturing environment Essential Competencies, Skills & Personal Attributes: Able to demonstrate full computer literacy & basic MS Office (Word , Excel) abilities Effective troubleshooting and problem solving. Analytical thinking structured and organised. Ability to stay calm and focused on occasion under pressure Honesty, integrity and respect for confidentiality.
