- The role is responsible for the Management of Mechanical Metallurgy, Non-Destructive Testing and Welding Laboratories according to the relevant procedure on a daily basis. Manage, maintain and repair equipment to ensure effective running of the workshop/laboratory. The preparation and supervision of student practical experiments/laboratory sessions. The provision of support for research projects and activities in the Department of Metallurgy. To ensure that occupational health and safety regulations are followed to minimise risks.
Responsibilities
- Supervision of Physical Metallurgy practicals.
- Prepare metallurgical samples.
- Oversee health and safety in the laboratory.
- Maintain and calibrations of teaching equipment.
- Ordering of laboratory consumables.
- Order laboratory equipment.
- Design and the fabrication of experimental setups.
- Installation and commissioning of research equipment.
- Guide students on research projects execution.
Minimum requirements
- A Diploma/Certification NQF 6 in Physical Metallurgy or relevant qualification.
- A minimum three 3 to five 5 years' job-related experience.
- A minimum of two 2 years' industrial experience.
- Practical content of the BEng Tech modules.
Recommendations
- A Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Physical Metallurgy will be an added advantage.
- Worked in a metallurgical Laboratory.
- Having a Masters' degree would be advantageous.
- Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa ECSA.
